We are actively involved in the community, care for the wellbeing of our team members and understand the importance of work/life balance.The Equipment Operator/Laborer receives detailed instructions before and during work to perform a variety of highway maintenance duties. Caution must be exercised in operating highway maintenance equipment in order to prevent damage to equipment or injury to employees and the motoring public.The position is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement.Works either independently or with a crew of employees. Frequent contact with the motoring public, Indiana State Police and other ITR department personnel.Performs all tasks safely, complies with all internal and external safety requirements, supports ITRCC safety culture, attends all safety trainings and completes all compliance trainings as required by ITRCC. Uphold ITRCC's core values: Community, Actions, Reliability, Excellence and Safety (CARES).Gathering and monitoring inventory supplies for daily jobs and assignments. Operates various types of equipment requiring moderate training; examples include but are not limited to: trucks that may be equipped with abrasive spreader, tar distributor or bucket truck, tractors that may be equipped with mowers, scrapers, spreaders, sweepers or loaders, bush hogs, trenchers, post drivers, jack hammers, portable pavement marking machines and tar kettle, street sweepers and earth saws.Performs a variety of tasks within the ITR right-of-way including but not limited to:Mowing and weed trimming/spraying.Snow and ice removal operations.Patrol road to help patrons.Guard rail/hand rail, sign, fence, crack-sealing and other repairs as needed.Pothole patching, trash pick-up, clean bridges and sweep plaza lanes.Tree and limb removal when needed.Road debris cleanup.Clean and maintain vehicles, and clean up after assignments at the end of the day.Keep traffic flowing and conducting lane closure.Ensure proper care and cleaning of equipment as instructed by supervisor.Cleans storm drains, sewers, bridge decks, piers, and culverts.Assisting other departments in functions as needed for general upkeep and safety related tasks.Loads and dumps crushed stone, sand, and salt and other various materials from trucks.Aids in cleaning highway after accident and removes trash from roadside.All other duties as assigned.Give customers good customer service. Wears required and proper PPE. Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections. Complete patrolling forms. Assisting in training new employees.Qualifications: (required)High school diploma/ GEDForklift certificationCPR certifiedPrevious snow plow experienceWorking knowledge of highway maintenance practicesCertificate in welding, bucket truck, back hoe and forkliftAbility to read and understand measurementsMust possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air-brake and tanker endorsementAbility to use various hand tools and materials used in highway maintenanceAbility to operate a variety of highway maintenance equipment ranging from small power tools to large vehicular equipment requiring moderate trainingKnowledge of traffic laws that apply to light and heavy equipmentDesirable Experience:1-2 years of general roadwork experienceWorking Conditions:Frequent standing, walking and sitting. Frequent talking and hearing. Heavy physical effort. Minor computer usage. Being exposed to weather elements daily (hot and cold). Travel time required up to 20%.
