MDTA Customer and Revenue Agent I (CARA I)

INTERVIEW AND HIRE POSITION (All eligible candidates will be invited to interview based upon standardized MDTA organizational criteria) The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. For over 50 years, the MDTA has provided Maryland's citizens and visitors with safe, secure, and convenient transportation facilities. Nature of Work This is the entry-level clerical-auditing and clerical-accounting work at a toll facility or other location managed by the MDTA. The employee works in the E-ZPass Customer Service Center (CSC) located in an MDTA facility and/or inside the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) facility and is responsible for receiving, verifying, and accounting for variable sums of money collected and handling face-to-face E-ZPass/Video toll transactions with the public. The position is responsible for handling all revenue payment types, greeting customers, and opening new E-ZPass transponders for the public. The employee is responsible for providing customer service, analyzing/researching customer accounts, data entry, and performing a series of computations using equipment such as a cash drawer, computer terminal, specialized software application, adding machine, currency and coin counter, and transponder reader. The individual will receive supervision from an MDTA Customer and Revenue Agent Lead or other designated official and does not supervise other employees. This incumbent may be assigned to a rotating or permanent shift that involves evening, weekend, and holiday work. This work requires some lifting of moderately heavy items. The current vacancy exists in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The incumbent selected for the position in Prince George’s County will work a rotating schedule between the E-ZPass CSC/MVA in Upper Marlboro, MD, CSC/MVA in Beltsville, MD, and CSC/MVA in Gaithersburg, MD. The resulting eligible list from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification throughout the agency. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Twoyears of clerical or accounting experience involving the receipt of, handling of, and accounting for money and/or checks and credit cards in connection with commercial or government activities and including the provision of customer service to the public. The ideal candidate will possess: Excellent oral communication skills required to interact with external customers andwith people at various levels within an organization; Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to respond verbally to customer inquiries; Ability to provide prompt, accurate and courteous service to the public; Ability to multi-task efficiently; and Ability to make accurate arithmetical calculations.
