Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Montgomery, AL

Facility Overview:

• 492 Beds
• Level I Trauma Center
• Level III NICU
• Primary Stroke Center

Position Requirements:

• Minimum of 18 months of experience in MedSurg and/or ICU
• EPIC or Cerner experience is required
• If strictly ICU experience, Cerner is mandatory
• Staff must be away for 6 months before returning as a traveler

Unit Information:

6 North Trauma Surgical

• Beds: 23
• Patient Types: General Surgery and Vascular surgeries
• Skills Required: Trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations

5 South Neuroscience

• Beds: 33
• Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizures, AMS, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases, post-trauma, angiograms
• Skills Required: IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, ostomy care, wound care, chest tube management, surgical site care, C-Collar management, abdominal binders, restraints

5 North MedSurg/Oncology

• Beds: 39
• Patient Types: All patient types except stroke and MI, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, MS/Oncology patients
• Skills Required: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, chemotherapy administration (if certified)
• Telemetry monitoring conducted by tele techs

3 South Orthopedic

• Beds: 20
• Patient Types: Orthopedic and spine surgeries including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies
• Skills Required: PCA pumps, wound care (including negative pressure dressing), dressing changes, foley management, drains

3 North MS/Ortho/Urology

• Beds: 23
• Patient Types: Urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg
• Skills Required: Trach, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, following nurse-driven foley protocols

Telemetry Experience:

RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours.

Support on the Unit:

• CNA Ratio: 1:10-12 for vital signs, ADLs, glucose checks when available
• Receptionist/HUC Available
• Phlebotomy Support Available
• IV/VAT Team Available
• Hospitalist Support Available
• Telemetry Monitoring Techs assist RNs

Technology and Equipment:

• EMR: Cerner (EPIC experience considered)
• IV Pumps: Plum 360
• Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
• Monitors: Spacelabs

Orientation:

• First-time travelers or those returning after more than a year will have 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit
• Rehires: Orientation duration will vary based on the last date worked

Scheduling:

• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
• Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday as per policy
