What You\'ll Do The Senior Tax Analyst is a critical contributor to Avalara for Hospitality (AFH), supporting enterprise-level customers with complex, high-liability indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. AFH supports some of Avalara’s largest customers, where accuracy, timeliness, and risk mitigation directly impact revenue retention and brand trust. As AFH continues to scale in complexity and transaction volume—particularly with Online Travel Agencies and Hotel Management Groups—this role ensures accurate multi-jurisdictional filings, reduces compliance risk, and strengthens enterprise customer confidence. This position directly protects customer revenue, mitigates tax exposure, and supports Avalara’s AI-first operational strategy. What Your Responsibilities Will Be Own end-to-end preparation and filing of multi-jurisdiction indirect tax returns, ensuring 100% on-time submission aligned to SLAs. Serve as primary compliance contact for assigned enterprise customers. Analyze transactional data to identify discrepancies or filing risks prior to submission. Complete month-end reconciliations to align reported liability with customer expectations. Resolve advanced customer inquiries and tax notices with minimal supervision. Execute quality assurance reviews related to tax content and jurisdictional updates. Improve cycle time, accuracy, and scalability through process and technology enhancements. Collaborate cross-functionally to strengthen compliance execution and customer experience. 12-Month Success Signals Independently manage assigned enterprise customers with minimal escalation. Achieve consistent 100% on-time filing performance. Maintain high accuracy rates with reduced rework or notice volume. Implement at least one documented AI-driven workflow improvement. Reduce manual review time per filing cycle while maintaining quality. Demonstrate strong working knowledge of AvaTax and Returns Console. Successfully onboard smaller new customers independently. What You\'ll Need To Be Successful AI Expectations We are hiring an AI Bar Raiser — someone who brings applied AI expertise and uses it to meaningfully improve how case management and compliance workflows are performed. This role is expected to elevate how AI is used across the team to improve resolution speed, accuracy, and scalability. Elevate team capability by sharing AI best practices and contributing to broader adoption Leverage AI tools to accelerate month-end reconciliation and filing cycles. Draft executive-level communications using AI while applying professional judgment. Use AI to summarize customer issues and actions. Quantify measurable impact such as reduced review hours or improved on-time filing rates. Implement at least one AI-enabled workflow enhancement within the first 12 months. Apply AI responsibly in alignment with Avalara security standards. Share AI best practices to elevate team productivity. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance. 1–3 years of experience in indirect tax (Sales & Use, Communications, Lodging, or similar). Experience with multi-jurisdiction tax filings. Strong analytical skills and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines in a high-volume environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven application of AI tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, or customer experience.
