About the Position

Job Title: PACU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PACU Duration: 11 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Hours (06:00 - 14:30; 07:30 - 16:00) Experience: 2 Years of Experience Required License: NC or Compact License Pending OK for Submittal Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS Must-Have: Minimum 2 years of experience. First-time travelers accepted. Experience in ambulatory/outpatient settings. IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including starting and maintaining IVs. Pre/post-operative care of patients, including discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and obtaining operative/procedural consent. Familiarity with malignant hyperthermia protocol and pain assessment and management. Description: RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation. This unit accepts travelers with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Work setting includes pediatric PACU and recovery phases. Surgery cases include ENT, general, and ophthalmology. Skills related to tonsillectomy and cataract extraction/implant are preferred. Experience managing pediatric patients is important. Respiratory skills, including airway assessment and placement of oral/nasal airways, are required. Knowledge of general, local, and monitored anesthesia care is necessary. This role involves follow-up phone calls, obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG, and performing pre/post-operative procedures. The average daily census is 40, with approximately 40 visits per day in a unit with 9 beds. No computerized systems are used within the unit. Staff may float to nearby facilities as needed. Weekends are not required. Patient age groups include infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Patient diagnoses primarily focus on eye and ENT procedures. Special procedures include BMTs, tonsils, adenoids, sinus, and cataracts. Staffing and scheduling are based on unit needs. Candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to starting.
