Registered Respiratory Therapist

Responsibilities Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol; obtains arterial gases; oversees and troubleshoots equipment for optimal patient care; initiates Respiratory Protocol and interventions based on assessment interpretation. Administers medications safely and promptly; evaluates effects, re-evaluates as needed, and ensures communication of progress to staff, physicians, and related departments. Maintains awareness of the overall condition of assigned patients; communicates and shares information with physicians and nurses; makes appropriate recommendations for patient care. Recognizes the educational needs of patients and families concerning health promotion and wellness; teaches self‑care techniques and modalities. Completes documentation to departmental standards; accurately records productivity information. Monitors supplies and equipment; notifies appropriate personnel when supplies are low, out on loan, or broken. Utilizes time efficiently to meet productivity standards, including leveraging low census periods when patient load is insufficient for full productivity. Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives; identifies potential areas for improvement and safety hazards and takes appropriate action. Contributes to departmental meetings with ideas or feedback. Promotes the profession of Respiratory Care; acts as a resource, consultant, and mentor to staff within the department and patient care areas. Participates in quality improvement and research activities as part of the Respiratory Care Team to guide patient‑care standards. May be required to float to other departments within scope of competency, to be on‑call during scheduled shifts, and to perform additional duties as assigned. Skills Respiratory Therapy Patient Education Patient Care Life Support Care Planning Patient Care Delivery Critical Thinking Documentation Quality Improvement Follow Protocols Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an NBRC‑approved Respiratory Therapist program; degree from an accredited institution. Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT). Current state license as Registered Respiratory Therapist. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. Additional certifications as required (e.g., PALS, ACLS, NRP). Physical Requirements Employee must see and read information, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies. Must verbally communicate and listen to spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately. Requires manual dexterity to manipulate delicate equipment and frequent computer use and typing. Expected to lift, transfer, and move patients; bend, lift, and carry supplies of varying weights (up to heavy items). Ability to walk, transport, and ambulate patients; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment in busy rooms. May stand for extended periods. Location and Compensation Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Full‑time (36 hours per week). Shift differentials available for evenings, nights, and weekends.
