Summary A Language Bank Interpreter provides professional interpretation services to assist in the communication between people who are limited in their proficiency of the English language and service providers in judicial proceedings, health settings or social services venues. Job Title Interpreter II Pay Range $26.05 – $27.83 per hour (displayed only for jobs based in Massachusetts and Vermont, where pay transparency laws require disclosure. Final offers are based on factors including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job‑related factors.) Essential Responsibilities Render the message faithfully, always conveying the content and spirit of the speaker using language most readily understood by the person(s) being served. Be dependable, reliable, and prompt at all times. Maintain strict confidentiality of all assignment‑related information. Be prepared to perform consecutive, simultaneous, and sight‑translation interpreting modes at any point, depending on the situation. Accept assignments using discretion with regard to skill, setting, and the clients involved. Act appropriately in each interpreted situation, demonstrating professional appearance, conduct, and promptness. Follow the interpreter code of ethics for medical and legal settings as designed by recognized entities such as IMIA, NAJIT, NCIHC. Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein to assist in meeting the goals of Ascentria and the department. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; two years of college preferred. Advanced proficiency in English and the target language. Ability to provide accurate and impartial interpretation, both receptively and expressively, from English to the target language and vice versa. Certificate of successfully completed Nationally Recognized Interpreting Training. Two years of related experience preferred. Acceptable criminal background check. Willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule. Physical Demands Position is primarily sedentary; may involve walking or standing for brief periods, repeatedly performing the same movements. Requires driving own vehicle to various sites and speaking clearly, focusing on one source of sound and recognizing differences.
