This position works closely with providers to deliver high-quality care while ensuring efficient patient flow and a positive, welcoming experience for every patient.Key ResponsibilitiesRegister patients and collect necessary demographic, insurance, and eligibility informationProcess co-pays and assist with schedulingPrepare patients for examination by obtaining medical history and documenting accurately in the medical recordMeasure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weightPerform point-of-care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, EKG, pregnancy testing) and report results to providersDraw blood and prepare specimens for laboratory analysisPrepare, clean, and stock exam rooms; monitor inventory levelsMaintain accurate and timely documentation within the medical record systemSupport front desk responsibilities, including phone management and patient communicationConduct patient follow-up calls as neededComplete opening and closing duties, including cash handling and end-of-day reconciliationPerform equipment checks, quality control, and troubleshooting as neededFollow all clinical, safety, and organizational policies and proceduresPerform additional duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent (required)Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience(required)Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required at time of hire)Must be obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)Preferred QualificationsGraduate of a Medical Assisting programExperience in urgent care, emergency department, or hospital settingPrior experience with patient registration or front desk responsibilitiesCertification RequirementsCandidates with less than three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience must:Hold an approved Medical Assistant certification ORObtain certification within 12 months of hireAccepted certifications include:CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP)RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH or ARMA)NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)Alternative QualificationsCandidates may be considered without certification at time of hire if they have:3+ years of Medical Assistant experience, AND1+ year of experience in an urgent care, emergency department, or hospital settingAdditional Accepted CredentialsThe following credentials may be accepted in lieu of a Medical Assistant certification:Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or ParamedicCertified Nursing Assistant (CNA)Additional RequirementsCPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification must be obtained within 2 weeks of start dateKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesProficiency in Medical Assistant clinical dutiesStrong computer skills and ability to document efficientlyHigh attention to detail and strong organizational skillsAbility to work both independently and within a team environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsCommitment to providing respectful, patient-centered careAdditional InformationThis job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
