Description

Position Summary
Under general supervision, performs skilled electrical work involving the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and low-voltage systems and equipment in government-owned buildings, facilities, parks, and infrastructure. Ensures all work is performed in compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and agency standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, controls, motors, panels, and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems in municipal buildings, parks, recreation facilities, offices, and related infrastructure.
• Inspect electrical components such as transformers, breakers, switches, outlets, lighting systems, generators, and control panels.
• Diagnose electrical malfunctions using testing devices and repair or replace defective components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and electrical diagrams.
• Ensure all electrical work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and safety standards.
• Assist with new construction, renovations, and facility improvement projects.
• Install and maintain interior and exterior lighting systems, including parking lot and sports field lighting.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot low-voltage systems including CAT6/data cabling, communication wiring, access control systems, security cameras, and related infrastructure.
• Terminate, test, and repair structured cabling and low-voltage systems in accordance with applicable standards and specifications.
• Coordinate with Information Technology staff, contractors, inspectors, and other departments on electrical and communication infrastructure projects.
• Respond to emergency electrical issues and after-hours service calls as required.
• Maintain records of work completed, materials used, inspections, and maintenance activities.
• Operate tools, equipment, vehicles, lifts, and machinery associated with electrical work safely and effectively.
• Follow all agency safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• May assist with other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in commercial, industrial, or municipal electrical work.
• Must obtain and maintain OSHA and CPR certifications.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Journeyman Electrician License (JE-98) issued by the State is required at the time of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
• Valid Driver's License required with an acceptable driving record.
• Additional certifications related to electrical systems, low-voltage systems, or safety may be preferred.
• ES-3 License preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of electrical theory, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade.
• Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable state and local regulations.
• Knowledge of low-voltage systems, structured cabling, communication infrastructure, and related equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical and low-voltage systems and equipment.
• Ability to install and test CAT5e/CAT6 cabling and related low-voltage systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schematics.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public.
• Skilled in the safe use of electrical tools, testing devices, and equipment.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively during emergency situations.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in varied weather conditions with exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles, infectious disease, electrical shock chemicals, allergens, and extreme heat or cold. Work involves high risk and potentially dangerous situations working near hazardous/moving materials, equipment and machinery; and exposure to excessive noise. The use of protective clothing, equipment, devices and materials is required. Work requires the ability to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell; clarity of vision at short and long distance; and the ability to lift up to 100lbs. Work schedule may include evening, weekend, holidays and 24-hour emergency call.

Special Requirements

• Selected candidate must submit to and pass a Village paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a Village paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver's License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a Village vehicle during the performance of his/her duties. Candidate must obtain and/or maintain all certifications required.
