QA Tester / Data Conversion Tester

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced QA Tester / Data Conversion Tester to support the SAMII to MOVERS Database Conversion Project .

The selected resource will be responsible for validating the conversion of financial, HR, and payroll data from the legacy SAMII DB2 z/OS environment into the MOVERS Oracle environment . The QA Tester will work closely with developers, business partners, project SMEs, and technical teams to verify that converted data meets source-to-target mapping requirements, business rules, and data quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Quality Assurance Testing, SQL, DB2 z/OS, mainframe environments, data validation, reconciliation, and complex ERP data conversion projects .

Experience working with financial, HR, and payroll ERP systems at a state government or equivalent organizational level is required .

• 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance Testing

• Experience testing complex data conversion, data migration, or ETL processes

• Experience validating data between source and target systems

• Experience creating and executing detailed test cases, test scenarios, and validation scripts

• Experience identifying, documenting, tracking, and retesting defects

• Experience performing data reconciliation and data integrity testing

Strong experience with:

• SQL

• Financial, HR, and payroll data

Working knowledge or experience with the following is highly desirable:

• JCL

The QA Tester will be responsible for testing and validating the conversion of SAMII DB2 data to MOVERS Oracle requirements based on mapping templates and specifications provided by the MOVERS project team SMEs.

Responsibilities include:

• Review business requirements, technical specifications, and source-to-target data mapping documents.

• Develop comprehensive test plans, test cases, test scenarios, and test scripts for data conversion activities.

• Validate data extracted from SAMII DB2 against MOVERS Oracle target requirements.

• Execute SQL queries against source and target databases to verify data accuracy.

• Perform record-count, field-level, transformation, reconciliation, and business-rule validation.

• Verify that data conversion programs correctly transform SAMII data according to approved mapping templates.

• Validate financial, HR, payroll, accounting, and related ERP data.

• Identify missing, duplicate, invalid, incorrectly transformed, or inconsistent data.

• Analyze complex data issues and clearly communicate data nuances and discrepancies.

• Verify relationships and dependencies between converted datasets.

• Perform positive, negative, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing as required.

• Support multiple conversion test cycles and production readiness activities.

• Validate defect fixes and perform regression testing after changes are implemented.

• Collaborate with developers and SMEs to troubleshoot data conversion issues.

• Participate in defect review and resolution meetings.

• Assist with conversion reconciliation and sign-off activities.

• Maintain accurate testing documentation and evidence.

The QA resource will specifically support the conversion of DB2 data from SAMII into MOVERS Oracle based upon mapping templates provided by the MOVERS project team SMEs.

Testing activities may include:

• Source-to-target validation

• Data mapping validation

• Data transformation testing

• Record-count reconciliation

• Financial balance reconciliation

• Payroll data validation

• Null and default-value testing

• Duplicate data validation

• Referential integrity testing

• Historical data validation

• Boundary and exception testing

• Post-conversion data verification

The QA Tester must be able to understand and discuss subtle differences in source and target data and determine whether identified differences represent expected transformations or defects.

JIRA will be used to manage testing tasks, defects, issues, and project assignments.

The QA Tester will be responsible for:

• Managing assigned testing activities through JIRA

• Creating JIRA defects for identified issues

• Providing detailed defect descriptions and supporting evidence

• Documenting expected versus actual results

• Recording SQL queries, test results, screenshots, or supporting documentation where appropriate

• Tracking defects through resolution

• Retesting corrected defects

• Updating the applicable JIRA ticket with testing results and status

• Documenting changes, findings, and resolutions as comments within each assigned JIRA ticket

• Communicating unresolved issues to technical and business stakeholders

• Previous experience supporting Missouri SAMII

• Experience testing SAMII financial or payroll data

• Experience with Oracle databases

• Experience with DB2 z/OS

• Experience with JCL and COBOL

• Experience testing mainframe-to-Oracle data conversions

• Experience with government ERP modernization projects

• Experience with large-scale enterprise data conversion initiatives

Skill / Experience Requirement

The ideal candidate is a senior QA professional with extensive experience testing complex ERP data conversions and database migrations .

The candidate should be comfortable working with DB2 z/OS source data, SQL queries, source-to-target mappings, data reconciliation, and Oracle target systems .

A strong understanding of financial, accounting, HR, and payroll data is highly valuable, particularly when identifying data discrepancies and determining whether differences are expected business transformations or conversion defects.

Previous experience supporting or testing Missouri SAMII would be a significant advantage.

This position is 100% onsite. Candidates must be available to work onsite for the entire duration of the engagement. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
