Area Supervisor

General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team who oversees a specific, assigned area of the store and manages general operations while serving as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a welcoming environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes as directed. Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments Understands safety is the top priority and practices safe behaviors in all duties. Maintains awareness on the sales floor, immediately correcting or reporting unsafe conditions. Secures the building: entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area. Removes clutter and maintains clear egress to emergency exits. Ensures customer safety: accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures. Tests fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after‑hours alarms when requested. Customer Service Treats all customers, associates, and leaders with respect. Demonsters courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times and recognizes associates through company programs. Personal and Store Brand Represents and supports the company brand at all times. Maintains a professional appearance per the dress code and ensures associates do the same. Keeps store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard. Manages daily trash removal. General Merchandising Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through teaching and follow‑up. Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks and processing all items with urgency. Handles all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries). Maintains cleanliness and organization of stockrooms; secures back‑stock and processes it per policy. Oversees merchandising of departments, including back stock, loss reduction, and compliance with monthly presentation guidelines. Executes floor moves, signing—including promotional signing—and re‑wraps as needed. Loss Prevention Understands and complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program. Maintains a strong customer service presence on the floor and engages associates. Demonstrates integrity, safeguards confidential information, and protects merchandise. Sustains proper use of the Public View Monitor (PVM) system. Conducts “Code 50” package inspections and executes company best practices. Front End Supervision And Operations Ensures associates perform front‑end procedures to company standards. Maintains pace, energy, and presence at the front end, managing the line to reduce customer wait time. Trains and coaches on registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures. Controls associate break schedules and ensures equipment functions properly. Maintains supplies and recovery for the front‑end area. Ensures go‑backs are scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed. Teaches the “Scan and Bag” best practice. Ensures merchandise salability on the front end and in specialty racks. Fitting Rooms Maintains cleanliness of fitting rooms. Audits garment tags in the fitting rooms per policy. Ensures go‑back compliance; all returned items are ticketed, scanned, and security‑tagged. Administrative Duties As Assigned By Store Manager Performs cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy. Manages front‑end control, refund approval, associate purchase approval, safe and till security, paid‑outs, void approvals, and register media. Administers payroll tasks: daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting. Performs additional duties as assigned by the store manager. Fluency in English. Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred. Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations common to retail. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Physical Requirements / ADA Use all store equipment (PDTs, registers, PC) as required; stand, walk, and move around store 100% of the time; bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop; push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs; use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies. Certain assignments may require additional qualifications and skills, such as the ability of stockroom staff to push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.
