Commercial Credit Regional Segment Director

Location Position may be located anywhere within the M&T Bank Commercial footprint. Overview The Commercial Credit Regional Segment Director is responsible for overseeing the credit risk management, underwriting strategies, and portfolio management for a specific segment within Middle Market, Commercial Real Estate, or Specialized Industries. This leadership role involves developing credit policies, managing a team of credit professionals, and ensuring that the loan portfolio performance aligns with the bank's risk appetite and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of credit professionals across sales, monitoring, and underwriting functions. Oversee the end‑to‑end credit process from deal screen through approval, including transaction structuring, legal negotiation, and terms sheet approval. Conduct independent credit quality assessments for the bank's largest commercial clients, identifying risks, mitigants, industry concerns, market and financial trends, and other pertinent credit issues. Ensure compliance with credit policy and regulatory requirements, advising teams on policy application and maintaining internal controls. Manage the continuous Commercial Credit Monitoring (CCM) program, including annual reviews, interim updates, covenant monitoring, problem loan management, and early warning indicators. Foster a collaborative team culture, provide training, employee development, and exercise managerial authority over staffing, performance, and terminations. Deploy and utilize Commercial Credit resources efficiently, prioritize workflow, and optimize team productivity. Liaise with senior management, auditors, and regulators to maintain internal and external audit compliance. Support Regional Credit Officers and Loan Committees with credit decisions, risk ratings, and financial statement analysis for new, renewal, and modified transactions. Ensure accurate completion of risk rating scorecards and financial statement spreads to inform timely lending decisions. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline with 12 years of related experience and 4 years of supervisory leadership. Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer‑focused approach. Proficiency in financial modeling and risk assessment tools. Experience with complex credit structures and syndicated loans. Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Familiarity with credit risk rating models and loan/portfolio management systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications MBA, Advanced Degree, or CPA. Experience with Capital IQ, FactSet, and Bloomberg. Pay The pay range for this position is $195,800.00 – $326,300.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate's specific compensation will reflect their unique combination of knowledge, skills, and experience.
