Electrical Estimator - Utility Scale SolarThis is a remote opportunity for an experienced electrical estimator supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects across North America. You will translate complex drawings, specifications, bills of material, and project requirements into accurate, executable estimates. The role combines detailed electrical takeoffs, pricing analysis, technical review, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll work closely with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, and manufacturing partners to position projects for successful execution. A key part of the role is identifying discrepancies, scope gaps, cost risks, and technical issues before they become costly problems. You'll also contribute to value engineering, proposal development, project handoffs, and continuous improvement of estimating processes. The position is designed for someone who takes ownership, values precision, and thrives in a collaborative, technically demanding environment.AccountabilitiesReview RFQ packages, electrical drawings, site layouts, single-line diagrams, specifications, bills of material, and other documentation to understand project scope and requirements.Perform detailed electrical material takeoffs covering cable lengths, harnesses, strings, connectors, assemblies, accessories, and other project-specific materials.Develop accurate project estimates incorporating material costs, supplier pricing, freight, manufacturing costs, customer requirements, and other relevant considerations.Identify discrepancies, missing information, scope gaps, incompatible materials, and other risks, while documenting assumptions, exclusions, and clarification requirements.Validate quantities, material selections, calculations, and drawing revisions before estimates are released.Partner with Supply Chain and manufacturing teams to obtain and validate supplier pricing, lead times, freight requirements, and other cost inputs.Support proposals, design revisions, value-engineering initiatives, Best and Final Offer activities, and estimate revisions throughout the sales cycle.Analyze changes between estimate versions and communicate impacts on quantities, scope, costs, materials, and project requirements.Maintain organized and traceable estimating files and supporting documentation for independent review.Participate in project award and handoff activities, ensuring estimates, quantities, assumptions, pricing, and scope align with the awarded project and purchase order.Support project changes, additional material requests, spare parts, and change orders as needed.Improve estimating templates, tools, checklists, standards, and review processes by incorporating lessons learned from completed and awarded projects.Requirements3+ years of electrical estimating experience, or equivalent electrical construction or design experience involving estimating and material takeoffs.Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, site plans, specifications, and bills of material.Hands-on experience performing detailed material takeoffs and developing project estimates.Strong knowledge of electrical materials, cables, conductors, connectors, and electrical distribution systems.Strong mathematical and analytical abilities, with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using Bluebeam or comparable takeoff and document-review software.Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex estimates simultaneously.Experience in renewable energy, utility-scale solar, EPC organizations, electrical contracting, or industrial electrical projects is preferred.Proficiency with AutoCAD is a plus.Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) is preferred.Education in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline is preferred; equivalent relevant industry experience may also be considered.Ability to identify inconsistencies, challenge assumptions constructively, communicate technical concerns clearly, and take ownership of estimate quality and completeness.BenefitsCompetitive base salary of $80,000–$90,000, plus an annual bonus based on company and individual performance.Fully remote work environment, with the position aligned to the Eastern or Central U.S. time zones.Multiple medical plan options, including CDHP and PPO coverage.Company-paid life and disability insurance.401(k) plan with company match.Supplemental critical illness, accident, and hospital indemnity insurance options.Paid time off, paid holidays, paid parental leave, and paid compassionate care leave.Employee Assistance Program, wellness incentives, and telehealth access.Dental and vision coverage.Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts with company contributions.Pet insurance, legal services, and identity theft protection.Employee-focused culture emphasizing collaboration, technical excellence, customer service, and continuous improvement.
