Our client is an established, privately held industrial technology company headquartered in Sioux Falls. The company provides engineering, technology, and field services to industrial and utility customers across the country, operating through several business lines that each carry their own P&L.
After years of steady performance, the company is entering a period of accelerated growth driven by both acquisitions and organic expansion. Leadership is looking for a CFO who can build the financial foundation to support that next stage.

Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer will lead all finance, accounting, and compliance activity for the company and serve as a strategic partner to the CEO. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building: designing scalable processes, sharpening reporting and forecasting, and giving business leaders the financial insight they need to run their operations well.

What You Will Do

Growth and Strategic Finance

• Run the financial workstream for acquisitions, from diligence and valuation through closing and integration.
• Develop capital and financing plans, and manage relationships with lenders and banking partners.
• Coordinate with outside tax and legal advisors on tax strategy and corporate structure.
• Provide analysis that guides decisions on pricing, investment, and resource allocation.

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Lead budgeting and rolling forecasts at both the business line and consolidated level.
• Create KPI reporting and dashboards that let leaders quickly see performance against plan.
• Present financial results and outlook to the executive team on a regular cadence.

Accounting, Controls, and Compliance

• Oversee the monthly close and the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements.
• Manage project accounting, including job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and revenue recognition.
• Ensure compliance with multi-state tax, payroll, and registration requirements.
• Maintain a strong internal control environment and manage the relationship with external accountants.

Systems and Team

• Own the company's cloud ERP platform and continue to improve reporting, workflows, and automation.
• Standardize finance processes so they scale as new business lines and acquired companies are added.
• Lead and develop the accounting team, and build out staffing as the company grows.
• Work closely with operating leaders to help them understand and improve the financial results of their business lines.

What You Bring

Required

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• 10 or more years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years leading a finance function as CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller.
• Experience managing finance for a company with multiple business units or entities.
• Hands-on involvement in acquisitions, including diligence and integration.
• Solid working knowledge of project-based accounting, including WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Experience with a mid-market ERP such as NetSuite.
• Proven ability to build forecasting, reporting, and process discipline in a growing organization.

Preferred

• Active CPA license and/or MBA.
• Background in industrial services, engineering, construction, technology services, or manufacturing.
• Experience in a privately held or owner-led company.
• Exposure to Lean or continuous improvement methods.
