Emergency Room Nurse

Assess and reassess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and plans of care. Provide patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures. Respect each patient as an individual and provide care that fosters the patient's sense of dignity and positive self-regard. Provide patient and family teaching based on identified learning needs, readiness to learn, and barriers to learning. Collaboratively plan and prepare patient and family for discharge, incorporating support systems and resources as necessary. Appropriately delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others. Prioritize patient care, seek assistance as needed from appropriate resources, reassign personnel as necessary, and recognize the need for emergency intervention. Document all pertinent data, therapeutic interventions, and patient responses according to established standards in a timely and thorough manner. Provide timely and thorough report on assigned patients to other healthcare team members to ensure integration of services and continuity of patient care. Promote learning for colleagues and self by functioning as a preceptor, instructor, or trainer and attending professional development programs. Proactively identify risks to patient safety and identify opportunities to reduce medical and healthcare errors by appropriately reporting incidents. Identify ethical issues in care and develop a plan to address them. Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician's orders, protocols, policies, and procedures. Assess patient pain level upon admission and as necessary, depending on diagnosis, utilizing the numerical pain scale. Reassess effectiveness of pain control, notify physicians as needed, and document assessment and patient response to medication. Perform and document initial assessments upon patient arrival and implement triage protocols as needed. Identify patients at risk for potential or alleged abuse. Initiate safety plans for patients of domestic violence, child, and elder abuse. Complete required mandated reporting in a timely manner. Collect and document forensic evidence as per policy. Maintain chain of evidence per policy and procedures. Complete mandated reports for injuries and cases of violence as per policy and procedure. Maintain knowledge of disaster policies and procedures. Identify patients at risk for violent behavior and appropriately implement non-violent interventions. Demonstrate knowledge of indications for, alternatives to, monitoring, and documentation of restraint use. Recognize normal and abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results, notifying the physician of changes in a timely manner. Safely administer vasoactive medications demonstrating understanding of dosage, action, use, side effects, and titration parameters associated with critical drips. Perform accurate and timely identification of cardiac arrhythmias. Institute, monitor, and document thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy standards and protocols. Demonstrate skills associated with initiation and maintenance of the intubated patient, including suctioning, troubleshooting, and weaning. Accurately interpret arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, and clinical features of impaired gas exchange and airway clearance. Responsible for obtaining supporting information and completing required documentation related to medication reconciliation. Responsible for implementing components of care bundles consistently and per protocol. Responsible for alerting supervisory staff if there is a deviation from established protocols for case review and follow-up as appropriate.
