Head of Algo Trading (AI)

Role Description

Deeter Analytics is a privately held investment research and trading firm managing ~$500M of its own capital across public markets. We are hiring a Head of Algo to lead our dedicated algorithmic effort to turn our unique market insights into systematic, AI-driven alpha.

This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of research and live trading, emphasizing:

• Strategy, end to end.
• Hypothesis generation, signal research, statistical validation, backtesting under realistic assumptions (costs, turnover, capacity, slippage), live deployment, P&L attribution, and ongoing iteration.
• The research-to-production pipeline.
• Signal generation, portfolio construction and sizing, and execution logic: the full path from an idea to a live position.
• Two complementary approaches: developing proprietary models and leveraging existing frontier AI models.
• Team and collaboration: building a small, high-caliber team and working closely with discretionary, engineering, and data teams.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability in building and shipping AI trading systems end to end.
• Strong quantitative and technical depth.
• Strong first-principles thinker with real technical depth and sound judgment.
• Rigorous about results and candid about uncertainty.
• Low ego and resilient: open to challenge and comfortable being wrong.
• Able to take a broad mandate, define necessary work, and deliver.
• Curious and genuinely energized by the problem.

Requirements

• Fluent in modern AI and able to use it to accelerate research and support decisions.
• Empirical and iterative: establish baselines, run efficient experiments, and guard against overfitting.
• Pragmatic: select the right method for each problem and prioritize P&L impact.
• Clear and collaborative: communicate concisely and work effectively across teams.

Core skills

• Deep facility with statistical and machine-learning modeling.
• Ability to design fast, cheap experiments and establish baselines.
• Judgment to separate real edge from fragile results or false positives.
• Operational build-out: getting an MFT book live end to end.
• Strong, hands-on coder (Python and the modern data/ML stack).
