Student Office Business Assistant, Latino SBDC (Federal Work Study)

Purpose of Position:

The Student Office Business Assistant provides basic administrative and front-line support to the department, including clerical duties, customer service, and utilization of Microsoft Office suite. Must be a fluent speaker of English and Spanish and have the ability to read and write in both English and Spanish.

Administrative work with the Ohio SBDC staff and business advisors, working specifically with our Latino Business Advisor. Learn about small businesses and starting a business, while working in a fun team-oriented environment.

This position is open to students that have Federal Work-Study only.

Position will begin Summer 2026 and continue in Autumn. Applicants should be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) and have financial aid for Summer 26 semester.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Represents the department at the front desk area with a positive, friendly, and helpful attitude. Working specifically with our Latino Business Advisor.

2) Provides front-line customer service face-to-face or on the phone to students, parents, faculty/staff, and members of the community.


3) Assists callers and visitors with contact information for offices/resources when appropriate.


4) Supports SBDC staff and business advisors with client business plans and processes.

5) Assists department staff with general offices duties and clerical/administrative work including but not limited to: filing, delivering messages, returning phone calls, sort mail and deliver mail, construct informational packets, make copies, etc.


6) Reviews and analyzes written documents for completeness. Recommends changes to documents including business plans.

7) Assembles materials, documents, etc. as related to the department and its processes and procedures.


8) Assists in the maintenance of various department documents using Microsoft Office suite.


9) Accurately file documents within established departmental filing system.


Supports department-related projects and programs as needed.

Minimum/General Qualifications:

This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.

Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.

Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.

Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.

Schedule:

TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between office hours of Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Maximum 20 hours per week.

Work will be performed: On-site only.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous work experience in an office or customer service driven environment such as retail, food service, volunteer work, etc.
  
• Fluency in English and Spanish and have the ability to read and write in both English and Spanish, as you will be working primarily with our Latino Business Advisor, whom works with the Central Ohio Latino small business community.
