Lab Assistant - 3rd shift

Job Title: Technical Lab - Lab Assistant - 3rd Shift
Location: 1 Insights Drive, Clifton, NJ 07012
Contract Dates: 4+ months contract with possible extension
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday
Shift: 8:00 PM - 4:30 AM
Hours: 40 hours/week

Job Summary:
The Lab Assistant performs routine laboratory functions accurately and efficiently to assist laboratory professional staff and support laboratory production.

Key Responsibilities:

Sort and receive specimens within the department.
Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated equipment.
Centrifuge laboratory specimens.
Print additional specimen labels as needed.
Record laboratory data, including temperature charts.
Perform specimen storage and retrieval.
Prepare reagents and/or media.
Prepare specimens at workstations for testing.
Build laboratory worklists.
Aliquot specimens into sample cups.
Check specimens for clots and fibrin.
Perform inoculation and slide preparation.
Perform assigned QA/QC duties.
Resolve pending lists.
Locate missing samples.
Decontaminate laboratory work areas.
Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
Maintain department files and records.
Change gas cylinders as required.
Follow all PPE requirements and laboratory safety regulations.
Use the laboratory computer system and operate PCs.
Dispose of biohazardous materials appropriately.
Complete required training and competency checklists.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Medical Assistant training is helpful.
Math and science coursework is preferred.

Key Qualifications:

Ability to establish work priorities and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Ability to retain information once learned.
Strong attention to accuracy and detail.
Ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment.
Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with coworkers and internal/external customers.
Ability to follow PPE, safety, and biohazard procedures.
Basic ability to use laboratory computer systems and PCs.
