NURSE PRACTITIONER or PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Individual who is a graduate of an accredited APRN program, and successfully passed certifying examination, and who is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, Advanced Practice Nursing to perform medical services and treatment of patients withan approved Collaborative Practice Agreement. Provides professional nursing care within the Oncology Clinic setting, coordinates care planning with other disciplines, and provides direct and indirect patient care. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with minimum supervision. Is able to triage safely, rapidly, and accurately, every patient that enters the clinic setting. Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to patient's condition or response of treatment. Primary Responsibilities Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Ability to perform/dictate/write history and physical assessments on all patients and reassessments as per policy. Dictates and writes progress notes Assist with insurance authorizations. Initiates and transcribes orders of sponsoring physician via verbal communication to the nurse. Initiates appropriate evaluation and assist in emergency management for emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, burns and hemorrhage. Reviews patient records to determine health status. Available to answer after hour non-emergent calls on occasion. Monitor and supervise patients while receiving treatments and assist with patient care as needed. Job Scope Position has partial accountability for both long-range operational and strategic planning. Job responsibilities are normally carried out in an environment that consists of a wide variety of work situations. Job functions are performed by relying on nationally accepted nursing (FNP-C) and managerial standards and at times developing new procedures. Normally works independently with minimal supervision. Work is not normally checked or verified by others. Realizes that errors in work or judgment and or communication style can affect staff morale, resulting in increased turnover or diminished quality of care; or may result in delays, additional expenses, lawsuits, or create an adverse image regarding unit services and therefore develops a management style that decreases these possibilities. Decisions are made within policy restraints and/or with consultation of the COO. Manages the unit within the operating budget. Communication The Advanced practice provider communicates with others both within and outside the facility. Communication may concern matters requiring explanations, discussion, counseling, interpretation or approvals. Communication frequently contains confidential or sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times. Communication is usually made with others on own initiative. Communication is made with others either face-to-face or on the telephone. Communication includes patients, staff, physicians, family members and others. Competencies Basic computer knowledge. Skill and proficiency in applying highly technical principles, concepts, and techniques, which are central to the professional discipline of nursing. Human relation skills in interviewing and communication Ability to use initiative in decision-making and independent judgment. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with coworkers in clinic and other departments. Willingness to work regular hours and weekends if necessary. Ability to function and be flexible and organized under stressful conditions. Ability to monitor and interpret hemodynamic status of patients. Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and identification of dysrhythmias. Ability to administer all skills taught in nursing training. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential information and materials. Ability to interact professionally with patient and family concerning information of the plan of care. Ability to work individually and as a member of a team. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and prioritize duties. Skilled in EKG interpretations. Skilled in basic computer programs and operation. Skilled in providing age appropriate care. Knowledge of infection control procedures. Supervisory Responsibility None. Requirements Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana. Current BCLS Certification or obtained within 6 months of hire. Current ACLS Certification or obtained within 6 months of hire. Current PALS Certification or obtained within 6 months of hire. Preferred Education and Experience NRP preferred. Oncology experience preferred.
