POSITION OVERVIEW: Campus Public Safety Officers at Rosemont College serve as visible stewards of safety, care, and community well-being, supporting the College's Cornelian mission by fostering a campus environment grounded in dignity, respect, hospitality, and service to others. SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE* Campus Safety & Presence
- Maintains a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors through regular foot patrols and occasional vehicle patrols, including navigating stairs, pathways, and campus terrain.
- Provides a consistent, approachable, and supportive presence that contributes to students' sense of safety, belonging, and trust.
- Demonstrates professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous learning aligned with the College's values and standards.
- Responds promptly and professionally to all safety and security concerns, service requests, and dispatched calls to support an orderly and respectful campus environment.
- Assesses and responds to incidents using sound judgment, calm demeanor, and appropriate discretion, including:
- Observing, identifying, and appropriately engaging individuals involved in incidents;
- Coordinating with local law enforcement, fire, and EMS when necessary;
- Responding to emergencies such as medical incidents, fire alarms, and hazardous situations;
- Determining when outside assistance is required and initiating appropriate notifications.
- Aids individuals who are sick, injured, or in distress until appropriate assistance arrives.
- Documents incidents accurately and thoroughly through written reports, including all incidents, accidents, and security breaches, ensuring clarity, accountability, and continuity of care.
- Assists and directs students, faculty, staff, and visitors by providing information and instructions in a clear, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Promotes a positive image of Rosemont College by offering hospitable and professional assistance, including providing directions, campus information, and reasonable aid within the Officer's scope.
- Engages with students, faculty, and staff during patrols to promote awareness of safety practices, risk prevention, and campus resources.
- Provides building security services, including locking and unlocking facilities in accordance with College procedures.
- Operates and monitors communications systems including radios, Direct Connect devices, and other approved equipment.
- Conducts routine testing and inspections of safety systems and equipment.
- Works collaboratively with Facilities, alarm vendors, and external technicians to support campus safety infrastructure.
- Enforces campus parking and traffic policies and procedures in accordance with Rosemont College regulations and applicable state laws.
- Supports safe campus traffic and parking operations and provides crowd management and safety support for events and special activities.
- Maintains daily activity logs and accurately completes all departmental forms and reports.
- Prepares clear, timely, and factual written documentation for all incidents, accidents, security concerns, and policy violations.
- Ensures effective shift-to-shift communication by briefing incoming officers on relevant information.
- Works collaboratively with campus partners to support a holistic, proactive, and student-centered approach to safety, care, and community well-being.
- Coordinates as appropriate with departments including, but not limited to:
- Student Affairs and Residence Life (student welfare, behavioral concerns, housing safety);
- Academic Affairs and faculty (classroom safety, academic events, student support);
- Alumni Relations and Advancement (events, visitors, campus hospitality);
- Campus Ministry (pastoral care, crisis response, and community support);
- Facilities and Environmental Services (infrastructure, hazards, and emergency response);
- Athletics and Recreation (event safety, crowd management, and participant welfare).
- Participates in cross-functional planning, incident response, and post-incident reviews to continuously improve campus safety practices and coordination.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of the safety, well-being, and mission of Rosemont College.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Clean, valid driver's license and ability to operate College vehicles in accordance with policy.
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully - both verbally and in writing - in a higher education environment.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, thoughtful, and effective in stressful or emotionally sensitive situations.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment in a dynamic campus setting.
- Commitment to representing the College with professionalism, integrity, courtesy, and respect at all times.
- Ability to engage students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a manner reflecting care, approachability, and service.
- Basic proficiency with computers and the ability to learn and use College systems, including incident reporting platforms and communication tools.
- Act 235 (Lethal Weapons Training) or Act 120 certification.
- Emergency Responder, EMT, or Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (will be required to complete a minimum of First Aid, CPR, AED within first 30 days).
- Prior experience in campus safety, public safety, law enforcement, security, emergency services, student affairs, or a related field.
- Familiarity with principles of campus-oriented public safety, trauma-informed response, or student-centered service models.
- Experience working in a higher education, residential, or student-focused environment.
- Experience using two-way radios, dispatch systems, or similar communications technology.
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, particularly when working with young adults and individuals in distress.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds, identities, and needs of the campus community.
- Reliability, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
- A genuine interest in contributing to a mission-driven educational community.

- The position may involve exposure to noise, fumes, dust, chemicals, and other environmental conditions typical of campus operations and emergency response.
- The role includes exposure to occupational hazards such as moving vehicles, mechanical equipment, electrical systems, elevated work areas, and emergency response environments.
- Regular walking and standing for extended periods, including patrolling the campus and moving between buildings and locations.
- Frequent climbing of stairs and navigating ramps, uneven surfaces, and varied terrain.
- Occasional climbing of ladders, bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, crawling, pushing, and pulling as required by situational needs.
- Frequent reaching, grasping, handling, lifting, and manipulating objects, equipment, and safety devices.
- Ability to maintain balance and physical stability while walking, standing, or responding to dynamic situations.
- Ability to sit for extended periods when assigned to desk or monitoring duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and via radio and telephone, including the ability to speak clearly and hear instructions, alarms, and emergency communications.
- Visual ability sufficient to read computer screens, written materials, and signage; observe surroundings; and assess distances and spatial relationships.
- Regular use of two-way radios, telephones, computers, and standard office equipment.
- Operation of College vehicles such as cars and vans in accordance with College policy and safety standards.
- Occasional use of carts, hand trucks, and other light material-handling equipment.
