Director of Security Operations

Job Title: Director of Security Operations Job Type: Full-time | Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The North Carolina State Bar is seeking a Director of Security Operations to ensure the safety and security of our staff, volunteers, facilities, and operations. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in maintaining a secure environment for the agency, addressing potential threats, and implementing robust security policies and protocols. What You'll Do Receive and evaluate safety concerns reported by staff and volunteers. Review inappropriate and/or threatening communications directed to agency staff and Councilors. Assess, monitor, and provide updates on potential security risks and threats from individuals or groups interacting with the agency. Collaborate with IT leadership to assess digital communications or online harassment containing threats. Maintain documentation on individuals about whom there are safety concerns. Notify third parties against whom threats are made in communications with the agency. Report threats to law enforcement as appropriate. Serve as point of contact for building security system provider. Coordinate with Facilities Manager on response to building security system alerts. Develop and maintain policies and procedures for protection of State Bar assets and physical records. Manage the security of internal events, meetings, and visits at the State Bar building when external security details are not present. Schedule and manage outside security details for hearings, Council meetings, and other events. Serve as primary liaison between the State Bar and agencies contracted to provide security. Coordinate with law enforcement or venue security for off-site State Bar meetings and events. Respond to security incidents promptly and effectively. Document and report all security breaches or serious concerns to leadership and law enforcement as appropriate. Supervise/escort terminated employees and disruptive visitors from the building. Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and emergency response plans. Provide and/or arrange for staff training and drills on security awareness and emergency response. Promote a culture of safety and preparedness within the organization. Perform all criminal background checks for the hiring process and other purposes as requested by staff. Assist Facilities Manager with building management as needed. What We're Looking For Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and extensive experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in security management, law enforcement, or threat assessment. Strong knowledge of risk management principles and security best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure. Preferred Skills Experience working in a regulatory or legal environment. Familiarity with physical security systems and emergency response protocols. CPP (Certified Protection Professional), PSP (Physical Security Professional), or threat assessment certifications preferred. Working Conditions Exempt position in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, one-hour lunch break. After-hours response to security alerts and incidents as needed. Travel: Infrequent.
