Requirement/Must Have:
- Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, and updating patient information.
- Ability to demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Full understanding of physicians' orders.
- Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Ability to attend annual department trainings.
- Assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers and follow specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
