Bridge Inspection Team Leader

Job Description WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full‑Time Bridge Inspection Team Leader. This position can sit out of our Mooresville, NC, Raleigh, NC, Greenville, SC or Columbia, SC offices. This Opportunity This position will support our robust and growing Bridge Inspection Practice in the Southeast Region, supporting bridge owners with evaluation, inspection, and recommendation services. It offers a strong advancement path for a leader eager to grow a bench of skilled inspectors. Your Impact Plan, schedule and perform bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of specific Bridge Owners, complying with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation. Use engineering and technical knowledge to conduct field work on bridges throughout the Southeast, focusing on deterioration and structural damage to keep the public safe. Generate complete, accurate, and concise bridge inspection reports using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook logs. Perform engineering calculations on bridge repair designs, bridge load ratings, and construction inspections. Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures to ensure work is completed correctly. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Who You Are Required Qualifications Associate’s degree in a construction‑related discipline, relevant construction experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline. 3+ years of experience in bridge design and/or bridge inspection. NHI Course 130055 Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges Certificate. Strong self‑discipline with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment. Competent interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non‑engineering audiences. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Physically capable of performing field work including climbing ladders (40 ft or less), carrying equipment, and working in adverse weather. Proficiency with hand and power tools. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical work week due to project demands. Occasional travel/overnight travel may be required. Track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies. The selected candidate must be able to work in the United States immediately. Preferred Qualifications Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification. Additional FHWA/NHI Training – (130078) Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM). Experience with drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.). Experience with engineering calculation software (AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR), Mathcad, SAP2000, etc.). Comfortable working at heights (40 ft+) and interest in working on ropes (SPRAT Certification). Enjoys outdoor work and exploring the bridge environment. Experience with inspecting complex bridges. FAA Part 107 certification or interest in UAS drone flying. Familiarity with or certifications in various NDT techniques. Interest or experience in programming, databases, data analytics, or APIs.
