IDOC is seeking an experienced corrections leader to serve as Assistant Warden at Murphysboro Life Skills Re-Entry Center. Lead facility operations, security, and support services while helping advance public safety, successful reentry, and positive outcomes for individuals in custody.

Essential Functions

• As Assistant Warden of Operations, develops, establishes and implements facility rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures for the facility to ensure proper operation of daily functions.
• Plans, organizes and directs overall operation functions and managers including security, physical plant, dietary services, individuals in custody discipline and other miscellaneous logistical support services.
• Serves as full-line supervisor.
• Conducts interviews with individuals in custody and confers with relatives regarding policies.
• Serves as Safety and Sanitation Coordinator; makes daily routine inspection tours of institution for security, safety and sanitation.
• Travels to various locations to attend management meetings, trainings and to speak to lay and professional groups regarding the institution programs.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology or a related field.
• Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement (public or private) organization, a correctional facility or related field.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, validdriver’s license.
• Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification card and the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve monthsof start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
• Requires the ability to work overtime and duty administrative office hours.
• Requires the ability to be on-call.
• Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.
• Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, isprohibited.
• This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiringthe occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.)requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretaryof State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement ofEconomic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive EthicsCommission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
• Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, theemployee should be aware that if offered non State employment during state employment or within one year immediatelyafter ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non- State employment offer, notify the Officeof the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
• Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digitalenhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
