Supervisor, Critical Operations

QTS is seeking a Supervisor, Critical Operations to oversee the maintenance and operation of critical systems in our data center. The position requires 7×24×365 coverage and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work. Responsibilities Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop the Critical Operations team. Coordinate and integrate all aspects of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and piping maintenance. Plan and coordinate capital equipment replacement and new construction projects. Assist customers on the Data Center floor with requests, installs, and related projects. Establish, implement, and maintain facility policies, procedures, and organizational structure within company and regulatory boundaries. Develop emergency response planning, response management, and incident reporting for all systems. Lead preventive maintenance on all equipment, including refrigeration, heat exchangers, HVAC, electrical, emergency backup, and hot water systems. Oversee preventive and corrective work orders, order parts, budget, and supervise completion of maintenance. Facilitate Data Center space and cable plant design, implementation, and maintenance. Ensure all incidents and work orders are completed, updated, and resolved in a timely manner. Lead responses to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns. Review and provide input on the operating budget and its implementation. Confer with subject‑matter experts to resolve operational problems, develop and authorize procedures, and approve major estimates. Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace. Provide updates and reporting to the Critical Operations Manager and Site Director. Act as stand‑in for the Critical Operations Manager as needed. Monitor direct reports, set performance goals, and lead professional development. Ensure all customer requests are completed and resolved promptly. Basic Qualifications Four or more years of workplace or relevant industry experience. Previous direct or indirect people‑leadership experience. Preferred Qualifications Six or more years of workplace or relevant industry experience. Previous people‑leadership experience in a data center environment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent people skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization. Exceptional customer service. Ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine causes of problems or malfunctions, and take corrective action. Ability to manage complex situations during off‑management hours as a single point of contact. Strong written, verbal, and people skills. Ability to function in a team environment. Ability to acquire and apply job‑related knowledge within set guidelines and expectations. Position may involve frequent typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and lifting. Lifting requirements may range from 10 lbs. to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, with heavier weights performed in conjunction with others or lifting aids.
