Scale House Attendant / Customer Service Cashier – $19.50/hr

Location: Newberg, OR
Pay: $19.50 per hour
Job Type: Temporary / Contract
Shift: 1st Shift
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, 7:30 AM–5:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch

About the Position

We are hiring a Scale House Attendant to assist customers at a waste and recycling facility. This position combines face-to-face customer service, cash handling, and computer work. You will greet customers, calculate charges, process payments, and maintain accurate records while helping keep traffic moving safely.

Job Responsibilities

• Greet customers, answer questions, and direct vehicles to the appropriate areas.
• Calculate charges, process customer payments, and balance your cash drawer at the end of each day.
• Check incoming loads for unacceptable materials and safety concerns.
• Enter information into facility software and complete Excel forms.
• Maintain transaction records, organize files, and prepare required reports.
• Help ensure customers and employees follow safety rules and wear required protective equipment.
• Keep the scale house and surrounding work area clean and organized.
• Report customer concerns, unsafe conditions, and operational issues to your supervisor.
• Attend required training and work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Cash handling experience, including processing transactions and balancing a cash drawer.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Comfortable using computers, Microsoft Excel forms, and learning new software.
• Accurate basic math and data entry skills.
• Ability to stay organized and interact professionally with customers, coworkers, and vendors.
• Availability to work the listed schedule, including Saturdays.

Work Environment & Requirements

• Work primarily takes place in a scale house at an active waste and recycling facility.
• Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and outdoor weather conditions during portions of the workday.
• Occasional handling of items weighing less than 30 pounds.
• Steel-toe boots required.
• A pre-employment background check and drug screen must be completed before starting.
• Interviews are conducted on-site.
