Position Description

A Foreman is responsible for overseeing, performing, and coordinating the execution of earthwork activities on construction sites, such as trucking, excavation, demolition, grading, and other site preparation tasks. They manage the crew, equipment, and materials, ensuring the project is completed in a safe and efficient manner, on schedule, within budget, and meets all quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervision & Crew Management

• Assigning daily tasks to operators, laborers, and other crew members
• Monitoring performance to ensure work meets quality, safety and productivity standards
• Coaching or correcting crew members as needed
• Conducting safety briefings and toolbox talks

1. Project Coordination

• Reviewing project plans, blueprints, or job specs to plan work
• Coordinating and operating the use of heavy machinery (excavators, loaders, dozers, etc.)
• Communicating with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors
• Adjusting schedules or tasks due to weather, delays, or equipment issues

1. Equipment Oversight

• Ensuring proper operation and maintenance of heavy equipment
• Scheduling regular inspections and reporting issues to mechanics or fleet managers
• Making sure only trained and authorized personnel operate equipment
• Verifying that machinery is used efficiently and safely on the job site

1. Material & Resource Management

• Tracking inventory of materials (gravel, concrete, rebar, etc.)
• Coordinating deliveries and storage of construction materials
• Minimizing waste and managing resources efficiently

1. Documentation & Reporting

• Completing daily field reports, timesheets, and equipment logs
• Documenting work progress, delays, incidents, and inspections
• Communicating updates to project managers or clients

Compensation begins at $44.67 per hour and increases according to the individual's experience level.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individuals must have experience with heavy equipment operating safely and efficiently. • Ability to work in a team-centered atmosphere and engage in the work that is being performed.
• Ability to understand what the finished project will look like and meet or exceed expectations of the customer
• Communicate clearly and accurately with Team Members, Superintendent, as well as with the customer
• Schedule personnel and equipment needs with Superintendent
• Be able to foresee potential problems and adapt as they arise
• Ability to read a set of plans and use the information to perform the work
• Ability to do simple math and an understanding of grades and grade-staking on the site
• Ability to schedule and coordinate trucking for site projects
• Ability to recognize different sights, sounds and smells that may signal an issue with equipment
• Willingness to attend training and ongoing education programs

Safety

• This is a safety sensitive position
• Follow and enforce OSHA standards and Fehn Companies AWAIR program
• Communicate with General Contractor's on safety issues
• Report on safety issues to Field Safety Manager

Education and/or Experience

• Minimum 2 years' experience as Lead or minimum 3-5 years' experience as earthwork foreman
• Minium 2 years' equipment operation skills and efficiencies
• Knowledge of Microsoft, iPhones and iPads
• Ability to schedule work with Superintendent and Job Supervisors

Language Skills

An individual must be able to effectively resolve problems by often discussing matters with Team Members, Management and other personnel on site.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands
