Production Scheduler

Overview The production planner role ensures production availability to fulfill demand by translating mid‑term and long‑term supply plans into granular short‑term production schedules that also align with near‑term requirements. The role balances available and required capacity to optimize service, working capital and conversion costs while monitoring potential issues that may impact production schedules. Responsibilities Analyst: Translate the network supply plan into a production schedule for the manufacturing assets within its scope; collaborate with finished goods, material, and network supply planning teams; adjust schedules when demand or supply deviate; identify future capacity constraints; anticipate issues by comparing short‑term demand with supply; translate new product introduction plans into production plans; work with the network supply planner to address planning assumption updates. Systems Expert: Use and maintain planning systems to create optimal schedules, leveraging technology and analytics for what‑if analysis. Internal Collaborator: Develop and maintain production planning assumptions and performance measures with purchasing, planning, manufacturing, logistics, and commercial teams; align with Master Schedule Quality metrics; support working capital control; ensure Direct Material Support receives accurate signals for buying. Communicator / Reporter: Report on back orders, planned utilization, WIP requirements, and costs; measure, analyze and report key process metrics; monitor adherence to KPIs. Process Improver: Participate in improving and upgrading production planning systems and reporting; analyze service, capacity utilization and WIP to increase utilization, reduce waste, or improve customer service. Success Criteria An operationally and financially optimized production schedule that accounts for customer requirements, inventory levels, material availability and available capacity. Metrics may include capacity utilization, customer fill rates, inventory performance and master schedule quality/attainment. Team Participation Participate in the development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinate work to ensure best practices; attend team meetings; foster cohesiveness on major issues, including annual planning, budgeting and policy changes; identify and resolve areas lacking cohesion and reinforce actions to achieve synergy. Operating Systems & Additional Duties Familiar with Simmons’ operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity and support these systems, communicating concerns and improvement ideas. Physical Activities Enter and locate information on a computer. Visually verify information, often in small print. Communicate with customers, vendors or employees via telephone, in person, and/or email. Present information to small or large groups. Move about in manufacturing, office, and surrounding property environments. Travel May travel within North America to and from multiple facilities or worksites, including overnight stays. Technical Experience 2+ years of working experience in similar or related roles is desired but not mandatory. Hands‑on experience working with multiple partners to resolve exceptions and negotiate best alternatives is desired. Industry Experience Education in operations, supply chain management, business (B.Sc.) or equivalent experience is required. A certification in supply chain from APICS, CPIM or lean is desired but not mandatory. Education Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or 4 years of related experience.
