Clinical Nurse (RN) - Gynecology Oncology/GI Oncology (AAU C2) - 0.9 FTE, 12-HR, Night Shift

Night - 12 Hour (United States of America) A Brief Overview The Clinical Nurse (CN) is an RN who provides hands‑on care to patients in an evidence‑based manner, within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process, including assessing patients; interpreting data; planning, implementing, and evaluating care; coordinating care with other providers; and teaching the patient and family the knowledge and skills needed to manage their care and prevent complications. The CN partners with the patient’s family wherever possible, considering all aspects of care, to deliver family-centered care. As a professional, the CN monitors the quality of nursing care provided and is responsible for his/her own professional development, including licensure, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and maintaining current knowledge regarding the assigned patient population. Locations Stanford Health Care What you will do Establish therapeutic relationships by creating and maintaining a climate conducive to healing, being present to the patient and family, identifying and managing discomforts, providing emotional support and information, and guiding the patient and family through phases of illness and recovery and, when appropriate, passage to death in accordance with the patient’s goals and culture. Mobilize the patient’s strengths and abilities towards participation in recovery and control over the plan of care. Obtain accurate and relevant assessment data and interpret the data as normal versus abnormal. Determine nursing diagnosis and monitor and evaluate data as frequently as needed based on stability. Collaborate with the patient, family, and members of the health‑care team to develop an individualized plan of care, implement nursing and medical interventions safely, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and monitor the patient for adverse responses and side effects. Assess a patient’s and family’s learning needs and readiness to learn, teach needed information for self‑care and illness prevention, adjust information and expectations based on responses from the patient, developmental levels, physiological and psychological condition, and cultural variations. Teach other staff members both incidentally and/or through formal roles such as preceptor or super‑user. Respond rapidly and appropriately to problem situations, activate emergency protocols, and monitor for quality health‑care practices. Integrate multiple requests and work expectations by setting priorities, delegating tasks appropriately, and seeking assistance as needed. Contribute to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings, positive morale, and constructive conflict resolution. Utilize available technology for communication, documentation, and accessing information regarding unusual clinical situations, diagnosis, and treatments. Contribute to the knowledge and skill of other nursing staff through formal or informal teaching, Shared Governance groups, professional publications, or presentations. Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning, effective communication, leadership, and professional practice evaluation. Education Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university (preferred). Experience Requirements 1 year of RN experience required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively in English. Licenses and Certifications Current American Heart Association certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS). Current American Heart Association certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers (ACLS). CA-RN (Registered Nurse). Physical Demands and Work Conditions Frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending and stooping, and walking. Work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, such as exposure to contagious disease, radiation, or infection. Protective clothing or gear may be required. Blood Borne Pathogens Category I Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. These principles apply to all employees: safe practices to prevent blood borne pathogen exposure.
