Key Responsibilities Conduct thorough mental health assessments for elderly clients, pinpointing their specific emotional and psychological needs to develop tailored treatment plans. Facilitate both individual and group counseling sessions that focus on emotional difficulties related to aging, fostering a safe environment for clients to share and express their feelings. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including nurses and social workers, to create comprehensive care plans that address the holistic needs of geriatric residents. Provide education and support to families and staff, sharing strategies that promote emotional well-being and enhance the quality of life for aging individuals. Offer specialized grief and loss counseling for clients and their families dealing with end-of-life issues, tailoring support to their unique experiences. Implement cognitive stimulation programs and mental health interventions aimed at promoting mental acuity and overall emotional health among elderly clients. Patient Population / Client Focus This position focuses primarily on serving elderly clients, including those experiencing emotional difficulties related to life transitions, loss of loved ones, and age-associated challenges. Understanding their unique backgrounds and addressing the diverse needs of older adults is crucial. Successful candidates will demonstrate both empathy and effective communication skills to build trust and rapport with a potentially vulnerable population. Qualifications A Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution. Current and valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) license in New York. At least 4 years of recent experience providing mental health support to geriatric clients. Proficient knowledge of evidence-based interventions for promoting mental wellness in the elderly. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an emphasis on building relationships with elderly individuals and their families. Demonstrated empathy and cultural sensitivity in working with diverse populations. Ability to perform thorough assessments and design personalized treatment approaches based on client needs. Knowledge of ethical and legal standards relevant to mental health practices. Preferred Experience Specialized training in geriatric mental health. Experience in working with clients facing a range of mental health challenges that commonly affect the elderly. Familiarity with telehealth technology and virtual counseling platforms. Compensation and Benefits The salary for this role ranges between USD 65,000 and 95,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
