Position: Lead Caregiver
- AM Shift 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
- Flexible Hours (must be able to work weekends)
- On-Call Requirement for scheduling every 3rd weekend.
The Lead Caregiver position is responsible for assisting the residents through the activities of daily living according to the resident’s assessment and care plan. This includes engaging with residents, providing and assisting diverse activities as appropriate, while promoting as much resident independence as possible. The Lead Caregiver will function as part of the interdisciplinary team and be able to work independently. The Lead Caregive r maintains a caring attitude towards residents ensuring a safe and clean environment. Additionally, the Lead Caregiver is responsible for setting a positive can-do attitude for every shift and supporting and providing team members in being successful in completing their daily job responsibilities.
Essential Functions.
- Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
- Assistant with finding replacements as needed for call offs or filling in as needed. Assures that tasks are completed on time and checks the quality of work.
- Verifies that all caregivers have necessary equipment (pagers, walkies, keys) at start of shift and ensures that call lights are answered timely by all caregivers on shift.
- Acts as a back-up Caregiver during staffing shortages or when directed to do so.
- Ensures tasks assigned by the Wellness Director are completed, including checking vital sign, weighing Residents, applying creams/ointments and collecting specimens.
- Must be knowledgeable of individual care plans and support the care planning process by providing supervisors with specific information and observations of the Resident’s needs, preferences and report any behavioral changes.
- Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained when providing care.
- Reports all change of conditions, falls, skin concerns, dietary concerns, hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the supervisor.
- Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.
- Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously.
- Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the transfer of Residents to different rooms within the facility.
- Train and mentor new team members using the New Team Member Onboarding program
- Ensure compliance and participate in training as scheduled; support and encourage team members to do the same.
- Address caregiving concerns and questions from other team members
- Review caregiving duties of team members to ensure completion.
- Provide tours to prospective residents or their families when the Executive Director and/ or Marketing Director is not available.
- Bring concerns regarding team members or residents to the attention of the Executive Director and Wellness Director.
- Assist with all ADL’s to provide the highest quality of life and care, including, but not limited to: bathing, dressing, grooming, incontinence care, vital signs, and weights.
- Monitor and record health and behavior of residents and communicate such information with other management and staff.
- Perform medication passing and record keeping duties, if assigned (must be certified).
- Maintain the confidentiality of resident and client records, including identity, behavior and medical conditions and be cautious of discussing resident issues in front of others.
- Supervise and monitor resident safety, following applicable resident care policy procedures and standards.
- Read and implement residents’ individual care plan.
- Conduct bed checks on residents a minimum of every 2 hours or as indicated on the residents’ care plan
- Attend team member meetings, in-service, and trainings as required.
- Attend state approved fire safety, first aid, and other required training.
- Familiarize self with the Policy and Procedure Manual; be prepared to implement its contents and/ or support the Executive Director and leadership team with implementation of its contents.
- Know the emergency and evacuation procedures established for the facility.
- Other Duties may be assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CBRF Certified if performing duties in a CBRF
- 1 year RA experience
- 2-3 years minimum experience as a caregiver.
