Chandler Unified School DistrictClassification: Support HourlyJob Title: Classroom Instructional Health Aide Moderate to Severe Disabilities (ABLE)Calendar: 1802PT or 1902PT (9 Month)Salary: Grade 109 (Support Hourly)Hours Per Day: 6.5Job Goal:Provide instructional support under the supervision of the special education teacher in a special education environment or as required by an individualized education plan (IEP); and provide support to students with moderate to severe cognitive and/or physical needs in a specialized classroomMinimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentTitle 1 schools only - ONE of the following:Associate's Degree60 semester hours from an accredited universityPassing score on an AZ state-approved competency exam (parapro exam is administered by district at no cost to employee)CPR/First Aid (certification provided)Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related softwareSatisfactory criminal background checkMeet the physical demands as described belowCore Job Functions:Instruct, within proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacherTranslate, when required, (both oral and written) for parents, students, staff, and othersAssist students requiring support in addressing personal care needs due to a severe medical condition and/or physical limitations (e.g., toileting, feeding, dressing, suctioning, tube feeding, and emergency rescue medication, etc.) for the purpose of allowing students to function in a school environmentImplement, under direction, behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parent and school personnel for the purpose of assisting students in modifying behaviors that conflict with a positive academic and social environmentAssist students with various physical, emotional, and academic needs, adhering to the guidelines of the student's I.E.PAssist with emergency rescue medications if necessaryAssist in the provision of services in a small group or one-on-oneAdminister immediate basic first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured studentsAssist with assessments and data collection under the supervision of the certified teacherOperate and care for equipment used for instructional purposesAssist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field tripsAlert the teacher to any problem or special information about a studentParticipate in meetings and in-service training as required for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroomMaintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employedBe flexible and perform other duties relating to the general job function as assigned by the supervisorAccept responsibility for students' well-being and safety while they are in the employee's careBe alert to and report the possibility of any substance use, child abuse, or dangerous situation based upon daily observationAssist in maintaining a quiet and orderly classroom environmentFollow district policies as outlinedPerform all duties safely and prudently as directed by supervisorsCore Values:Excellence in all we do.
