COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER (WT: STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT DISPATCHER) - 76001144 Requisition No: 877757 Agency: Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle Position Number: 76001144 Salary: $42,936.60 annually (Includes Competitive Market Pay of $4,999.80) Tampa Bay Regional Communications Center – State Law Enforcement Dispatcher Organization The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) provides highway safety and security through excellence in service, education, and enforcement. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is a nationally accredited state law enforcement agency that enforces the laws of Florida and ensures the safety of the motoring public. The vision of FHP is a safer Florida through Courtesy, Service and Protection. FHP operates seven Regional Communication Centers (RCC) located in major metropolitan areas. These facilities are 24/7 professional dispatch centers for FHP and seven other state law enforcement agencies. Duties and Responsibilities State Law Enforcement Dispatchers, also known as Community Service Officers, are the first responders and non-sworn communications professionals who link the public with law enforcement and maintain safety. Responsibilities include: Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls. Dispatching troopers and other state law enforcement officers. Monitoring and responding to radio and data communications traffic. Coordinating efforts between FHP and other agencies (e.g., Florida Department of Transportation after crash incidents). Receiving, relaying, and documenting call/incident details, law enforcement activity and other information. Why Apply? Training Provided New dispatchers participate in a four‑month training program composed of classroom and on‑the‑job phases: Orientation/Basic Introduction; Call Taking; Radio; Combining Call Taking & Radio; and Shadowing. A certified 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) curriculum is part of the training. Incumbents are required to become 911 PST certified within 12 months. Exam costs are covered. Job‑Related Requirements Willingness and ability to work rotating days and shifts 24/7, including weekends and holidays. Minimum age 18 years. High school diploma or general equivalency diploma required. Level 2 background check and CJIS and SLERS security clearance. Drug screening, medical, and psychological examination. Selection Process The process typically lasts three to six months and proceeds through six stages: Stage 1: Job application submitted. Stage 2: Applicants who meet screening standards receive an invitation to complete the Test Genius Skill Assessment. Stage 3: Successful candidates complete the RCC Supplemental Application and schedule an interview. Stage 4: Virtual interview. Stage 5: Conditional offer contingent on background investigation.
