Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physical Therapy Aide. In this role, the successful candidate assists in the delivery of therapy services. Job Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Maintain a good rapport with other staff and physicians. Assumes additional responsibilities and perceive the total need of the unit. Caring:Acts as an advocate for the patient in all areas of the health care delivery system. Develops a supportive and therapeutic relationship with the patient. Safety: Demonstrates competence in utilizing equipment in a safe and proper manner. Observes infection control, health and safety hazards and takes precautionary measures to reduce or eliminate risks.Physical Environment: Maintains an organized, uncluttered work environment. Initiates ideas for improving the physical environment for optimal delivery of therapy services. Notifies appropriate persons when equipment is in need of repair or is missing. Learning and Professional Growth: Keeps abreast of current literature as new developments in the field. Patient Preparation: Assists the patient in preparation for and at the conclusion of treatment. Maintains the patients safety and comfort by following procedural and safety guidelines. Monitors the patient's personal care and environment constantly, assists the patient with toileting needs when indicated. Utilizes the appropriate supplies and equipment in relation to the type of treatment being administered following departmental safety guidelines. Assists the patient in dressing and undressing with appropriate supervision. Application of cold and/or heat modalities: Administers cold packs, hot packs, and paraffin to the patient as part of their treatment program. Applies and removes the modality. Applies the modality in accordance with the length of time specified by the Therapists' instructions. Follows established departmental procedures and takes safety precautions in the use and application of the various modalities. Application of transfer activities - Advises and prepares the patient for the transfer. Utilizes the proper techniques and body mechanics. Maximizes the patient's potential to assist in the transfer. Assists in treatment - Follows the instructions given by the Therapist or the Therapy Assistant. Follows the progressive resistive exercise programs established by the Therapist safely and accurately. Follows tilt table and positioning guidelines. Renders proper ambulation training under the direction of the Therapist of Physical Assistant; this includes providing appropriate guarding techniques, verbal and simple tactile cueing; assisting patients in ambulation in the parallel bars, on level surfaces in standing, balance and weight shifting activities;and assists in travel training. Administers hydrotherapy safely following departmental guidelines. Maintenance of supplies, equipment, and the unit - Monitors the level of inventory and notifies the supervisor if additional supplies are needed. Maintains all therapy equipment by ensuring the equipment is kept clean and in good working condition. Makes recommendations for the repair or replacement of equipment. Prepares the unit for treatment by keeping it clean, orderly, and free of safety hazards. Surveillance of environmental conditions - Follows established procedures for safety and emergencies. Follows infection control procedures. Follows pest control procedures. Identifies potential hazards and takes appropriate action. Clerical and reception activities- Answers the telephone and takes messages accurately, Maintains records and files correctly in each area as needed, Performs errands promptly upon request. Patient transportation - Transports patients upon request according to safety and departmental guidelines. Judgment/ Decision making. Seeks information or asks for assistance from appropriate personnel when necessary, Follows verbal instructions carefully, Demonstrates alertness to changes in patient conditions; notifies appropriate personnel immediately. Initiative - Volunteers assistance to others, Makes recommendations for work simplification practices,Demonstrates a desire to learn more. Planning and Time utilization - Completes assignments within allocated time frames, Utilizes free time effectively;is alert to the needs of the treatment area, Demonstrates reliability by maintaining a good attendance/punctuality record. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a High School Diploma. Ability to communicate well with staff and patients and follow instructions. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in healthcare preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
