Compensation

Mount Sinai South Nassau provides a salary range in good faith determination of potential compensation to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Position Summary

Summary:
A Perfusionist performs functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. This individual operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary/circulatory function and ensures the proper management of physiologic functions by monitoring the necessary variables.


Responsible To: Clinical responsibility and oversight falls under the Chief and Chairman of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department and/or his qualified designee.

The Lead Perfusionist reports directly to the Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Program Coordinator. Administrative responsibilities include working closely with the perfusionist to ensure coverage of all clinical perfusion services on a daily basis. This individual will also provide general leadership and oversight to all members of the perfusion team with regard to the various programs outlined below. He or she will also work closely with the department's Chairman, or Chairman's designee, to initiate and monitor quality assurance and improvement programs related to perfusion services. In addition, under the supervision of the Cardiothoracic Surgeon or other specialty surgeon, this individual will provide leadership of multiple programs at Mount Sinai Morningside involving direct patient care.

Qualifications

Responsibilities:

Education Required
• Must complete in-house orientation program
• Bachelor's Degree in Perfusion Technology or Bachelor Degree with a Certificate in Perfusion Technology from an accredited cardiovascular perfusion education program.



Experience And Skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Speaks, reads and writes English
• 5 years' experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and related perfusion services.
• Prior Supervisory experience preferred.
• Broad clinical experience in adult Cardiothoracic surgery including Cardiac assist devices, ECMO, and thoracic aneurysm surgery.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to take on multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Basic MS Office Suite abilities
• Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized or emergency situations Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistics



License/Certifications
• New York State licensure and certification as a Perfusionist by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
