Registered NurseThe Registered Nurse requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgement and nursing skills based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in the application of the nursing process in the respective departments in which assigned. The RN must collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising assigned team members and students.ResponsibilitiesCompletes patient assessments; formulates, implements, evaluates, and adjusts plans of care utilizing critical thinking skills.Performs nursing functions in accordance with Board of Nursing regulations, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, and nationally recognized nursing standards.Provides patient care, counseling, health teaching, and health promotion utilizing Teach Back methodology to ensure understanding.Administers medications, intravenous therapy, and treatments as prescribed by a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP).Supervises, delegates, and follows up on nursing care activities performed by other personnel.Mentors and precepts students and orients new staff as assigned.Reports pertinent information through the chain of command to the Clinical Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, or House Nurse Coordinator.Participates in teams, committees, and performance improvement initiatives.Maintains a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers, and self.Participates in discharge planning and transition of care activities, identifying patient needs.Serves as a patient advocate and escalates patient concerns in a timely manner.Documents pertinent patient information and findings accurately and promptly in the medical record.Assists patients with activities of daily living and functions as an active member of the healthcare team.Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.Utilizes effective communication and active listening skills while demonstrating compassion and empathy.Practices SBAR communication and performs bedside shift reporting utilizing SBAR when appropriate.Serves as a positive influence and role model while adhering to professional standards of conduct.Maintains patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.Performs other duties as assigned.Emergency Department Training RequirementsState and federal regulations related to emergency services.Nursing management of trauma patients.Nursing management of cardiac-related disorders.EKG procedures, EKG interpretation, and appropriate nursing interventions.Pharmacological interventions, including IV therapy.Patient assessment and triage.Nursing management of pediatric emergencies.Medicolegal aspects of emergency care, including proper documentation.Nursing management of obstetrical emergencies.Patient and family emotional responses to illness and injury.Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and airway management.QualificationsEducationAssociate's Degree requiredGraduation from an accredited school of nursing requiredBachelor's Degree preferredMinimum Work ExperienceUp to one (1) year of acute care nursing experience preferredOne (1) year of experience relevant to the specific department preferredExperience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferredLicenses & CertificationsRegistered Nurse (RN) license in the state requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) requiredAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) requiredTrauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) certification requiredPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification requiredNIH Stroke Certification requiredAdvanced Dysrhythmia/EKG certification requiredDe-Escalation Training within six (6) months of hire requiredRural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC) preferredEmergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) preferredRequired Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with providers at all levelsStrong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence positive outcomesAbility to follow direction and support change in a complex healthcare environmentDemonstrated critical thinking skillsBasic computer skillsAbility to pass a medication examinationCompletion of hospital-approved training program and demonstrated competency in emergency care proceduresCompetency in moderate sedation practicesCompletion of required stroke modulesKnowledge of restraint procedures and requirementsAbility to comply with unit orientation requirements, including safety procedures, infection control practices, and performance improvement monitoring activities
