ECBM Insurance Brokers and Consultants
About the Role ECBM is looking for a Benefit-Group Account Manager to join our team in our Group Benefits Department! The Benefits Account Manager serves as the primary day-to-day service and strategic contact for assigned clients. The role is responsible for coordinating benefit plan administration, renewals, financial tracking, carrier and vendor relationships, employee communications, and ongoing client support. Working closely with Producers, Account Associates, carriers, and vendor partners, the Account Manager delivers proactive guidance, responsive service, and practical solutions that support client objectives and strengthen long-term relationships. Major Responsibilities:
Client Service and Account Management
• Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients, providing timely, accurate, and solutions-oriented service in accordance with ECBM standards and procedures.
• Coordinate and oversee eligibility, enrollment, termination, qualified life event, and benefit change transactions, including work delegated to Account Associates.
• Maintain accurate client, carrier, contract, billing, and contact information within BenefitPoint, ImageRight, Employee Navigator, and other applicable systems.
• Monitor client activity, communicate significant developments to the Producer and Director, and promote client retention through proactive communication and consistent follow-through.
• Coordinate new business implementation, including applications, forms, carrier submissions, policy issuance, client deliverables, and completion of required follow-up. Financial Management and Reporting
• Maintain accurate financial tracking and reporting for assigned clients, regardless of financial arrangement, including plan costs, funding, fees, claims activity, budget performance, reconciliations, and cost-management results.
• Review carrier and vendor invoices, enrollment-related billing, financial reports, and supporting transactions for accuracy; identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare financial summaries, renewal exhibits, comparison spreadsheets, and other reporting that supports client decision-making.
• Identify material variances, emerging cost drivers, and opportunities for plan optimization, and communicate findings to the Producer, Director, and client as appropriate. Renewals, Marketing, and Carrier Negotiations
• Coordinate the annual renewal and marketing process, including census preparation, data collection, request-for-proposal preparation, proposal evaluation, and renewal spreadsheet development.
• Support and, when assigned, lead negotiations with carriers regarding rates, plan terms, underwriting requirements, service issues, contractual commitments, and renewal alternatives.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with carrier representatives and remain current on product offerings, underwriting requirements, and market developments.
• Prepare clear client recommendations and coordinate the documentation and follow-up required to implement renewal decisions. Vendor Oversight and Cost Containment
• Oversee carrier and vendor performance for assigned accounts, including implementation, service delivery, issue resolution, reporting, contractual obligations, and ongoing accountability.
• Coordinate the evaluation and implementation of cost-containment solutions that align with each client's objectives, workforce, plan design, and financial arrangement.
• Monitor vendor commitments, performance standards, implementation timelines, and results; escalate concerns and drive resolution when expectations are not met.
• Assist clients in evaluating appropriate healthcare management, pharmacy, navigation, transparency, wellness, and other benefit solutions. Open Enrollment and Employee Education
• Plan, prepare, and conduct client and employee open enrollment presentations, clearly communicating benefit options, plan changes, enrollment requirements, available resources, and key deadlines.
• Coordinate enrollment communications, educational materials, presentation logistics, carrier and vendor participation, and post-enrollment follow-up.
• Provide ongoing employee benefit education and support throughout the plan year, as requested by the client. Compliance, Quality, and Team Support
• Maintain working knowledge of group benefit products, COBRA administration, qualified life events, enrollment rules, and applicable processing requirements.
• Follow ECBM quality management practices, protect client information, and help reduce errors and omissions exposure through accurate documentation and timely communication.
• Collaborate with Producers, Account Associates, internal departments, carriers, and vendors to meet client needs and maintain strong business relationships.
• Assist with newsletters, client communications, special projects, and other responsibilities assigned by management. Qualifications
• Active Life, Accident and Health Insurance License, or ability to obtain and maintain the required license.
• Minimum of five years of group employee benefits experience.
• Strong knowledge of group health and welfare plans, benefit administration, renewals, carrier processes, and client service practices.
• Experience with financial tracking, renewal analysis, carrier negotiations, vendor management, and open enrollment presentations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and experience with BenefitPoint, ImageRight, Employee Navigator, Zywave, or comparable benefit administration and agency management platforms.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, organizational, analytical, and client relationship skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, process a high volume of work accurately, and collaborate effectively in a client-focused environment.
