Job Opportunities City of Tallmadge, Department of Human Resources, is hiring for Patrol Officer positions. The position is classified as Lateral Entry or Entry Level. Locations Civil Service Office, 46 North Avenue Tallmadge Administration Office, 46 North Avenue Tallmadge Police Department, 53 Northeast Avenue Tallmadge Recreation Center, 46 North Munroe Road Patrol Officer Job Duties Patrol the City on foot and by car Respond to dispatched calls Investigate criminal activity Assist injured individuals Conduct interviews Preserve, photograph, document and process crime scenes Enforce local and state criminal laws Process arrested individuals, incarcerate or transport suspects to jail Attend all court hearings and related meetings Represent the department at public meetings Inform citizens of department services Cooperate with community groups Resolve citizen concerns and conflicts Attend meetings and serve on temporary committees as requested Maintain and increase knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, training courses and in‑service training sessions Perform additional duties and assignments as requested Entry‑Level Ranking Requirements Applicants must complete and submit an application, attach copies of earned college degrees, proof of police academy completion, and honorable military discharge papers (DD214) if applicable. All applicants must pass a physical agility test consisting of a 1.5‑mile run, sit‑ups in a minute, and push‑ups in a minute. A minimum combined score of five (5) must be obtained; automatic failure in any event renders the candidate ineligible. Ranking Criteria Education OPOTA or another state’s Police Academy Associate’s Degree Bachelor’s Degree Master’s Degree or higher Physical Agility Test Physical Agility Test As many sit‑ups in one minute As many push‑ups in one minute Military Experience Honorable discharge Lateral Entry Ranking Requirements Applicants must hold a valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) certification, or an out‑of‑state equivalent, and be currently working as a sworn officer in any state or have worked as a sworn officer in any state within the last 12 months. All applicants must pass the physical agility test described above. Qualifications Education and experience as outlined in Ranking Criteria Current valid driver’s license Normal or corrected vision and hearing Ongoing physical fitness meeting city standards Background check and chemical test clearance Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident eligible for employment Salary and Benefits Step 1 to Step 6, ranging from $37.08 to $45.06, based on experience and classification.
