Emergency Management Specialist

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing programs that prepare hospitals for natural and human-made disasters. This role focuses on mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to ensure safety, minimize risks, and maintain continuity of operations. What you will do: Develop, update, and maintain emergency management plans, including evacuation, continuity of operations (COOP), and disaster recovery plans Conduct hazard vulnerability assessments and risk analyses Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to ensure coordinated preparedness efforts Design and implement emergency response protocols and procedures Develop and deliver training programs on emergency response and preparedness Coordinate drills and simulation exercises (e.g., tabletop, functional, full-scale exercises) Evaluate exercise outcomes and implement improvements Response Coordination Serve in a role within the Incident Command System (ICS) structure Coordinate communication between stakeholders, first responders, and leadership Monitor situations and provide timely updates and recommendations Recovery & Continuity Assist in post-incident recovery efforts and damage assessments Support business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives Document lessons learned and update plans accordingly Compliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local emergency management regulations (e.g., FEMA, DHS, OSHA) Maintain documentation, reports, and records related to emergency programs Apply for and manage grants related to emergency preparedness Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Homeland Security, or related field 3–5+ years of experience in emergency management or disaster response Knowledge of FEMA frameworks, NIMS (National Incident Management System), and ICs Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies outside normal hours Preferred Qualifications Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) Experience with business continuity planning Familiarity with GIS or emergency management software systems Experience working with government agencies or healthcare systems Crisis management and decision-making Strategic planning and risk assessment Communication and stakeholder coordination Problem-solving and adaptability Attention to detail and documentation Position Highlights and Benefits Comprehensive benefit packages available, including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, 403B, and education assistance.
