Sheboygan - Med/Surg 2


• About Facility:


o 3400 Union Ave. Sheboygan, WI


o 101 Beds


o Level IV Trauma Center


o Primary Stroke Center


• Unit Information:


o Beds: 24


o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years


o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes


• Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:


o Ortho - total hip and knee replacements, spinal surgeries


o General MedSurg - CHF, COPD, respiratory/kidney/liver/GI issues, etc.


• Patient Ratios:


o Days/Eves: 1:4-5


o Nights: 1:5


• Required License, National Certification, Certs:


o BLS; NIHSS preferred


• Skills required:


o PIV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, chest tubes, stable trach management, knowledge of patients on bipap/cpap


o Drips: insulin and heparin


• Support within the Department:


o CNA: 1:5-10 ratio depending on shift. Can do vitals, BG, IV removals


o HUC here on days, part time on Eves


o Charge nurse - takes modified patient assignment


o Phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws


o IV/VAT Team - no, notify House Super for hard sticks


o RT 24/7


o Hospitalist 24/7


o OT/PT/ST during the weekdays


• Technology/Equipment:


o EMR: EPIC - preferred experience


o IV Pump: Alaris


o Med dispensing: Pyxis


• Floating: If yes, where?


o Could float within scope of practice at the hospital, mostly to MS1, Cardiac MS2, and ED Holding


• Orientation (facility and unit) :


o NEO


o 1-2 12h shift on the unit


• Scheduling:


o Weekend rotation: every third


o On call? No


o Holiday Expectations: Depending on time of year, could work up to 3 holidays in contract


• Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, NYE, NYD, 4 th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day all holidays


o Approval of RTO: can approve up to 7 days


o Shift times: 0700-1900, 1500-0300, 1900-0700, 0300-1500


o Schedule cycle: made in 4-6 week increments, will receive 2 weeks prior
