Engineer IV, Nuclear Fuel Systems

Job Description To lead and implement comprehensive systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle, applying systems thinking to analyze, design and integrate complementary interdependent components. This role drives stakeholder and operational analysis, defines and manages requirements and develops functional and logical architectures using model‑based methods within PLM frameworks. It oversees physical product definition, interface management, change control, design integration and testing, and system verification and validation, while developing and maintaining operational concepts. The position coordinates cross‑disciplinary collaboration, identifies and mitigates technical risks, and supports value engineering through cost and feasibility analyses. It documents and communicates technical progress to both technical and non‑technical audiences, ensures compliance with X‑energy quality assurance procedures, and upholds professional standards in all communications. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Responsibilities Support team members with the execution of core tasks under guided supervision. Coordinate with engineering team members, partners and suppliers where applicable to facilitate convergence of efforts, guide implementation, provide engineering assurance, and deliver high‑quality engineering work products. Apply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, considering interdependencies and interactions between components. Lead and manage systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding: Stakeholder and operational analysis Requirement identification, decomposition, and management Functional decomposition and modeling Logical system architecture development and modeling Physical product definition, interface management, and change control Design integration and testing System verification and validation Concept of operations development and modeling Develop and maintain system behavior models using model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) tools within established PLM frameworks. Lead the identification and monitoring of technical risks and develop mitigation strategies. Support value engineering activities, including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost‑reduction opportunity identification. Write and review engineering documentation and reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Execute systems engineering processes within X‑energy's quality management framework. Work across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems. Perform work in accordance with X‑energy quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering products meet required standards. Maintain a professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication. Perform other duties as assigned by manager. Minimum Qualifications Typically three years of experience in an engineering role. A master’s degree may substitute for two years; a Ph.D. may substitute for three years of experience. Bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering or other engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited institution. Experience and/or knowledge in the following areas: System Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288) Operational & Stakeholder Analysis Requirements Management System Design & Interface Management Design Integration & Testing Verification & Validation Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Tools and Methods & Product Lifecycle Management Systems, e.g., Teamcenter PLM, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, and DOORS Systems modeling and simulation Interface control and management Configuration management and change control Technical risk assessment and management Location and Schedule Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD Work Schedule: 5 days a week in office Travel Expectations: Up to 10% as needed Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon‑Fri Compensation As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements. Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education, training, experience, and other qualifications. Salary ranges may vary by region. A reasonable estimate for this position at the required level of experience is: $92,031 - $153,385.
