Job Summary As a Senior Claims Examiner, you will analyze complex claims, perform coverage determinations, and manage claim processes. You will provide guidance to junior staff, maintain compliance with department workflows, and collaborate with external stakeholders including reinsured clients, defense counsel, and insured parties. Key Responsibilities Review submitted claims for coverage and determine if a matter is covered under the applicable policy Investigate increasingly complex claims and coverage issues Draft action plans, coverage recommendations, and obtain requisite management approvals Establish and revise claim reserves based on development and liability assessments Draft coverage determination letters, reservation of rights and denial letters Appoint defense and/or coverage counsel as appropriate Obtain updates from counsel and the insured Update claims diary and authorize settlements within approved authority Approve claims correspondence, payments, and reimbursements for legal or vendor invoices Maintain accurate claim files documenting all communications and activities Communicate with brokers or reinsured clients to obtain necessary information Attend mediations and arbitrations for reinsurance clients as needed Train, mentor, and assist other claims staff in resolving claims issues Assist in managing the workflow of the claims department Maintain quality, quantity, and response time standards of the business unit and the company Competencies Planning – Develop work plans, establish timelines, and assign resources to meet deadlines Communication – Convey results and recommendations to management and clients Cost Management – Drive process improvements and achieve cost‑efficient results Business Controls & Policies – Comply with corporate policies and report control issues People Management – Supervise assignments, train personnel, and assist with performance reviews Education & Qualifications • Minimum 4‑year bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience • 6 years relevant and progressive professional experience • Active adjuster license in the state of residence or other designated home state, obtained within six months of hire; additional state licenses may be required based on business need • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, discretion, and diplomacy • Strong organizational and analytical abilities • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Teams) Working Conditions Work outside core business hours may be required Travel up to 10% of time and up to 10% of work location outside the normal office may be required Valid driver’s license may be required Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and lift up to 10 pounds Must operate a computer and other devices; good vision to read a screen is required Benefits & Compensation Competitive salary and benefits package including 401(k) match, paid parental leave, PTO, and a learning culture.
