Job Title: Metrology Engineer – CMM Programming

Job Description

The Metrology Engineer supports engineering and repair operations by developing and modifying CMM programs, executing program tryouts, documenting technical work, training operators, and driving metrology strategy and equipment implementation. This role focuses on measurement technology, CMM programming, and metrology process development for complex aerospace components rather than day-to-day production quality inspection.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and maintain CMM programs using CAMIO, PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, MODUS, and related software to support aerospace components and repair activities.
• Execute CMM program tryouts and validation, ensuring that measurement routines operate correctly, reliably, and efficiently on production equipment.
• Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles to design robust measurement strategies and ensure dimensional compliance of complex parts.
• Support the development and implementation of metrology equipment strategies, including selection, configuration, and optimization of measurement systems.
• Document engineering work thoroughly, including CMM program logic, measurement plans, validation results, and process changes, in accordance with internal standards.
• Train operators and technicians on the proper use of CMM programs, measurement techniques, and metrology best practices to ensure consistent and accurate data collection.
• Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to integrate measurement solutions into repair and overhaul processes and support production needs.
• Provide technical guidance on fixture design and part setup to enable stable and repeatable measurement of complex aerospace components.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by refining measurement strategies, enhancing program efficiency, and contributing to long-term metrology process development.
• Assist in troubleshooting measurement issues, resolving discrepancies, and implementing corrective actions related to CMM programs and metrology processes.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience programming CMMs using CAMIO, PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, and MODUS.
• Proven experience creating, modifying, and validating CMM programs for complex components.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and the ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings.
• Experience with metrology equipment strategy development and implementation.
• Background in aerospace manufacturing, repair, or overhaul environments.
• Proficiency in technical documentation related to metrology, CMM programs, and engineering changes.
• Ability to conduct program tryouts and validation to ensure measurement accuracy and repeatability.
• Experience training operators or technicians in CMM operation and measurement processes.
• Strong programming and problem-solving skills in a metrology-focused engineering role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using PC-DMIS, Calypso, and Modus for CMM programming in aerospace applications.
• Aerospace component experience, including complex geometries and tight tolerances.
• Repair and overhaul experience in an aerospace or similarly regulated environment.
• Fixture design support experience for metrology and CMM applications.
• NX experience supporting engineering, design, or manufacturing activities.
• Interest in working with advanced metrology and CMM technologies, including CAMIO software.
• Motivation to influence long-term measurement strategies, repair development processes, and engineering best practices.

Work Environment

The role operates in a highly collaborative engineering environment focused on developing and implementing advanced metrology strategies, CAMIO-based CMM programs, and measurement solutions for complex aerospace components. The Metrology Engineer works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams and regularly partners with a union-represented manufacturing workforce, including skilled operators and technicians, to implement new programs and support production needs. The position offers exposure to advanced metrology and CMM technologies and provides the opportunity to contribute directly to aerospace repair and development programs. The assignment is structured as an engineering contract role with potential for extension and offers competitive hourly compensation, paid time off eligibility, and Connecticut Paid Sick Leave. The facility is conveniently located with easy access to major highways in central Connecticut and is near restaurants, retail shopping, and everyday amenities, making it an accessible and practical location for commuters.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of East Hartford, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
