Metro is seeking Lateral Police Officers to join its new Department of Public Safety. In this sworn, armed role, you will protect life and property, enforce laws, and support safe, reliable transit operations across Los Angeles County. Help us shape our department from the ground up. What You’ll Earn Earn up to $142,521 per year What You’ll Do Patrol assigned areas to prevent crime and ensure public safety Respond to emergency calls and assess situations independently Enforce local, state, and federal laws and Metro policies Investigate incidents, collect evidence, and prepare reports Manage conflicts and provide crowd control when needed Work with other law enforcement agencies and testify in court Support fare enforcement and compliance efforts Mentor and assist in training newer officers What You’ll Need High school diploma or GED At least 21 years of age Must pass background, medical, and psychological evaluations Ability to remain firearm qualified Current POST Basic Certificate and successful completion of probation with a California law enforcement agency What Makes You a Good Fit Strong decision-making and communication skills Ability to stay calm and lead in high-pressure situations Experience working independently with minimal supervision Commitment to public service and community engagement Exposure to varying weather and high-activity situations Irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays Active, field-based role supporting public safety LA Metro offers a flexible benefits package designed to support you and your family.
