Position Summary:

\n

We are seeking an agile, high-energy Membership Director to lead membership strategy and drive core sales for our new Washington, D.C. venue. In this dynamic pre-opening role, a major driver of your success will be actively selling and securing foundational founding memberships to establish our inaugural community. Working closely with Marketing, you will navigate shifting timelines and evolving priorities to build a robust pre-launch sales pipeline, cultivate high-value prospect networks, and execute high-touch preview events. You must be comfortable managing fluid schedules, pivoting marketing tactics based on real-time feedback, and aggressively driving pre-opening sales targets. Post-opening, your focus will remain on driving ongoing membership growth, managing the sales funnel, and maximizing long-term member retention.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Opening & Launch Strategy

\n

\n
• Founding Member Sales Leadership: Actively market, pitch, and sell founding memberships, serving as the primary closer for inaugural high-profile members and driving early revenue targets.
\n
• Agile Pipeline & Recruitment Strategy: Develop, iterate, and adapt pre-opening membership acquisition strategies across founding and launch tiers, adjusting tactics fluidly in response to construction, permitting, or venue delivery timelines.
\n
• Pre-Opening Event Curation & Host Management: Oversee, host, and adapt pre-opening preview events—such as exclusive walk-throughs, pop-ups, founder dinners, and off-site receptions—leveraging these touchpoints for founding member recruitment while managing and directing the event "host" to ensure seamless execution, guest engagement, and follow-up.

• Marketing Collaboration: Partner closely with the Marketing team to align campaign messaging, digital acquisition channels, promotional materials, and event collateral with membership growth goals.
\n
• Founder & Selection Committee Management: Establish and collaborate with a local Selection/Advisory Committee to identify prospective founding members and curate the core community network.
\n
• Brand Ambassadorship & Strategic Partnerships: Act as the local face of the brand in D.C., building adaptable partnerships with local cultural institutions, business networks, and influencer groups to generate high-intent leads for founding tiers.

Post-Opening Operations & Retention

\n

\n
• Member Acquisition: Lead post-opening sales efforts, application reviews, background checks, and onboarding workflows, continually refining conversion strategies based on performance data and marketing insights.
\n
• Member Retention & Engagement: Monitor member satisfaction and renewal rates; proactively engage with members to build strong individual relationships and minimize churn.
\n
• Feedback Loops & Marketing Adaptation: Gather member feedback and operational insights to iterate on recruitment profiles, membership value propositions, retention initiatives, and co-marketing strategies.
\n
• Reporting & Financial Forecasting: Continuously track KPIs, sales conversion rates, attrition metrics, and demographic data, pivoting forecasts and recruitment campaigns in tandem with Marketing to optimize membership revenue.

Key Qualifications:

\n

\n
• 15+ years of leadership experience in direct membership sales, private clubs, luxury hospitality, or curated community platforms, with a proven track record of closing high-value sales.
\n
• Demonstrated history of driving founding member sales campaigns or building pre-opening sales pipelines from scratch in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
\n
• High adaptability and problem-solving skills, with a track record of successfully managing shifting timelines, delayed openings, or evolving pre-sale strategies.
\n
• Experience planning, managing event hosts, and leveraging high-touch preview events to generate leads and convert prospects.
\n
• Proven track record of working closely with cross-functional Marketing teams to execute cohesive acquisition campaigns. 
\n
• Strong, multi-sector network in the Washington, D.C. market with the ability to flex communication styles across diverse, high-net-worth audiences. 
\n
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, sales acumen, emotional intelligence, and composure under pressure.
