About the Role

The Company is seeking an Area Vice President of Operations to lead and drive the P&L, strategy, and growth of waste collection and landfill operations within a specific geographical area. The successful candidate will be responsible for operational excellence, safety, and maintaining strong client relations to ensure consistent performance across all business lines. This role demands a focus on cost optimization through the implementation of new technologies, vendor management, and sustainable practices. The AVP will also be tasked with managing regional teams, upholding regulatory compliance, and overseeing significant P&L responsibilities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Key responsibilities for the Area Vice President include developing and executing regional strategies for growth, efficiency, and market expansion, as well as managing the P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control. The role involves overseeing daily operations, logistics, and best practices for waste collection, sorting, and disposal. The AVP will also be involved in maintaining key client programs, negotiating contracts, and building strong relationships with stakeholders. Leadership is a critical aspect of the position, with a focus on hiring, training, and leading high-performing management teams, and driving environmental initiatives to ensure regulatory adherence and track KPIs for waste diversion and alternative fuel usage. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in business management or a related field, with over 10 years of leadership experience in the waste and recycling industry, including operations or controller-level roles. A deep understanding of the North American waste and recycling market, competitive dynamics, industry trends, regulatory policies, and emerging technologies is essential. The role requires strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and business development skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in collaborative, team-oriented environments. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 50% of the time are also necessary.
