Heavy Diesel Mechanic

The Heavy Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment and vehicles. This includes trucks, trailers, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and other diesel-operated equipment. The mechanic ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. Role and Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance on diesel engines and heavy equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues. Repair and replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and suspensions. Conduct inspections and identify potential equipment failures. Use diagnostic software, computerized equipment, and hand tools to troubleshoot problems. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Perform DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Test equipment following repairs to verify proper operation. Respond to field service calls and emergency breakdowns as required. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Order and manage parts and shop supplies as needed. Collaborate with operations and management teams to minimize equipment downtime. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Technical training in diesel technology or related field preferred. 2–5 years of experience repairing heavy diesel equipment, trucks, or construction machinery. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and air brake systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation. Valid driver's license; CDL preferred. Ability to operate diagnostic tools and computerized repair equipment. Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods. Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate shop equipment and heavy machinery. Preferred Certifications CDL Class A or B. OSHA Safety Training.
