Senior College Advisor – College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) Position Overview The Senior College Advisor reports directly to the Director of College Advising and serves as an academic advising expert and consultant to College Advisers and campus partners. Responsibilities include providing advanced-level academic advising on degree requirements, major exploration, college policies, and CDSS UAO processes, and guiding undergraduates on academic and personal success. First Review Date June 23, 2026 - Open until filled Responsibilities Academic Advising (60%) Apply professional student development and academic advising theories to support undergraduates in identifying, defining, and obtaining their educational goals. Advise students on course options and navigating complex degree requirements. Empower students through holistic and collaborative advising to achieve personal and academic success. Engage and build relationships with students, explain registration and enrollment procedures, and assist in accessing enrichment opportunities such as study abroad, internships, research, scholarships, and extracurricular activities. Advise on special eligibility requirements including Honors, fellowships, and scholarships. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of College policies and regulations, and provide assistance on all aspects of the students' academic experience. Create and implement workshops on academic strategies and enrichment programs; present information effectively in individual and group settings. Review applications from continuing students wishing to add or change a CDSS major. Process student petitions and forms, ensuring accuracy and policy compliance. Assess and monitor students' progress to ensure timely declaration of major, semester limits, degree advancement, and completion. Projects (20%) Serve on committees representing CDSS Advising, participating in short‑term and long‑term planning. Support senior advisors on special projects, including communications, peer advising, and outreach. Admissions and Recruitment (10%) Read and rank junior transfer applications using in‑depth knowledge of College admissions criteria; organize scoring data for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Determine the transferability of technical coursework with departments to allow subject credit. Advise prospective students, parents, and counselors on College degrees, programs, and policies. Represent the College at recruitment and yield events such as Power in Community Day, Bridges Senior Weekend, Cal Day, Golden Bear Welcome, and transfer admit yield receptions. Professional Development and Growth (5%) Engage in training, workshops, conferences, and seminars relevant to the position. Other Duties (5%) Perform other job duties as assigned and relevant to the position. Required Qualifications Demonstrated ability to make consistent, sound recommendations and deliver clear judgment in applying policies affecting students. Strong organizational and planning skills to prioritize workload and manage competing priorities. Collaborative work skills with faculty, staff, and students, fostering a team environment and adaptability in a diverse campus climate. Strong knowledge of advising and counseling techniques and student development theory. Knowledge of common University‑specific computer applications and departmental requirements, policies, and procedures. Ability to design and implement undergraduate enrichment programs with multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines. Strong problem‑identification, reasoning, and solution‑development skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills. Discretion and sensitivity in handling confidential situations. Ability to address the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the workplace and student body. Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training. FERPA compliance. Salary & Benefits Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range. Anticipated hiring range: $61,200 – $85,800. Salary offers are based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
