Project Estimator

Role Description

The Project Estimator is responsible for reviewing project requests, analyzing construction documents, and developing accurate cost estimates for repair and alteration projects. This role involves:

• Performing quantity takeoffs
• Coordinating with subcontractors to obtain and validate bids
• Ensuring all project scopes are clearly defined and comprehensive
• Managing RFIs and reviewing submittals
• Sourcing material pricing as needed
• Monitoring progress and collecting field documentation
• Maintaining alignment with project scope

Responsibilities

• Analyze the drawing and specifications of the new building provided by architects or engineers before starting any construction project.
• Calculate the quantity of the material used in the building and the actual work or labor cost.
• Monitor the cost during the whole construction of the building.
• Manage the finances for construction projects, making them cost-effective.
• Calculate the budget based on the consumer’s requirements and ensure an effective budget estimate is set for each stage of the construction process.
• Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client.
• Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
• Assist in establishing a client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
• Perform risk, value management, and cost control.
• Advise on a procurement strategy.
• Identify, analyze, and develop responses to commercial risks.
• Prepare and analyze costings for tenders.
• Allocate work to subcontractors.
• Provide advice on contractual claims.
• Analyze outcomes and write detailed progress reports.
• Value completed work and arrange payments.
• Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
• Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.
• Travel as needed up to 50% to potential work sites.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred (Extensive Knowledge in Mech, Plumbing, Electrical Disciplines).
• 6-8 years of experience in project Estimating, Pricing, and Quantity Survey.
• Construction estimating or finance experience required.
• Proficient in estimating software (eGordian or RS Means).
• HVAC experience is preferred.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to organize, plan, and strategize.
• Must be able to lift, lower, carry, push, or move objects up to 25 pounds.
