Position Summary

The Flooring Estimator is responsible for accurately measuring, estimating, and preparing bids for commercial and residential flooring projects. This role requires expertise in carpet, resilient flooring, hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl tile/plank (LVT/LVP), ceramic tile, porcelain tile, and related flooring products. The estimator works closely with sales staff, project managers, vendors, and customers to ensure competitive, accurate, and profitable proposals.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Bidding

• Review project plans, specifications, and customer requirements.
• Perform take-offs using estimating software and construction drawings.
• Conduct site visits and field measurements as required.
• Calculate material quantities, labor requirements, waste factors, and project costs.
• Obtain vendor and subcontractor pricing.
• Prepare detailed and accurate proposals, bids, and quotations.
• Ensure estimates comply with project specifications and installation requirements.

Product Knowledge

• Estimate carpet, carpet tile, sheet vinyl, LVT/LVP, hardwood, laminate, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, and related flooring products.
• Understand manufacturer specifications and recommended installation methods.
• Stay current with flooring products, installation techniques, and industry trends.

Project Coordination

• Collaborate with sales representatives and project managers during project planning.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and job walks.
• Assist with value engineering opportunities and alternative product recommendations.
• Support project managers during project turnover and execution.

Customer Service

• Communicate with customers regarding project scope, specifications, and bid requirements.
• Answer questions related to estimates, materials, and schedules.
• Build positive relationships with contractors, builders, architects, designers, and end users.

Administrative Duties

• Maintain organized estimating files and bid records.
• Track submitted bids and project outcomes.
• Update pricing databases and vendor cost information.
• Assist in developing estimating standards and procedures.

Qualifications

Required

• Minimum 3 years of experience in flooring estimating, flooring sales, project management, or a related construction field.
• Knowledge of carpet, hard surface, and tile flooring products.
• Ability to read blueprints, plans, and specifications.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Preferred

• Experience with flooring estimating software.
• Knowledge of construction industry bidding processes.
